The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are adding an Operations Director to join our growing Data Center Innovations business unit in Austin, TX.  In this role you will lead, at an operational level, all aspects of offsite manufacturing operations, providing customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction and profitable outcomes. You will collaborate closely with business development efforts, operations, and other business units to successfully win and execute work that aligns with McKinstry capabilities and business plans. Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include:

Leading teams 

Hire, coach, and performance manage team members consistent with McKinstry valuesSchedule and host the monthly Operations Management Meeting w/ focus on training team membersBe an integral part of monthly Operation Reviews and Plan PresentationsBe an active participant/presenter in the All-Hands Meeting 

Operations management

Participate with Business Unit Manager in monthly department forecasting, annual planning, and department monthly meetingManage proactive staffing which compares project and assignments to a roster of resources Take responsibility for proactive view of upcoming work and communicating that to all of the interested downstream partnersTake responsibility for ensuring that the Critical Processes from the PLC and Navigator are being done on all projects (including coach, guide and mentor around this content)Coordinate and drive activities across safety, supply chain, quality, plant operations, project/program management, and business development functions.Improve efficiency, reduce re-work, and prevent write-downs by evaluating processes and work-in-progress against expected production rates with plant managers to uncover opportunities to streamline and reduce wasted time and materialsWork with project managers and sales to schedule manpower requirements based on forecasts, budget, scope, job scheduleConfirm manpower needs are being met for all projects and communicate impacts to PM’sWork with supply chain to schedule and receive materials and equipment procurement based on project and order forecast/backlogEnsure that project and operations staff are following set procedures when acquiring personnel for jobsManage plant manager communications about project status to the PM’sMake sure manufacturing operations are performing in budgeted labor hours through published manpower plansCreate a way to track plant and operations personnel performanceEnsure we execute professional high-quality production for all programsWork with logistics to make sure storage and deliveries meet standards, schedule, and contractual requirementsKeep track of union contracts and how it affects the businessAttend union labor committee meetings as neededWork with the plant managers and trade superintendents to determine qualifications and training needsHold operations personnel accountable for deadlines Work with plant managers and trade superintendents to keep crew sizes at the correct level and labor mix for department project executionSet-up vendor training and certification for specific products and equipmentWork with safety dept. to manage safety training and implementationManage trade communication with internal/external customers when manpower needs to be shiftedInfluence project assignment of manufacturing staff geographically to minimize travelDevelop and utilize tools to communicate with plant managers about upcoming workload Develop and retain talented staffEducate and critique staff when required information is incomplete or incorrectWork with Project Managers and Plant Managers to organize and schedule post production analysis when product runs are completed, or as needed to correct inefficiencies

Sales & business development support 

Available to sales/estimating for manpower options and strategiesParticipate in Program and Bid Reviews to provide constructability/manufacturability review and ensure sound estimating practicesAttend client meetings, interviews and events as neededTake on pursuits and budgeting exercises as assignedPartner with the sales team, other department leaders, operations managers and CSU resource 

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience10+ years of industry experience7+ years of project management experience7+ years of experience leading people with a high standard of excellenceStrong business acumenProficient in forecasting and managing cost types

The pay range for this position is $134,730-$215,550 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
