Construction Engineer
Total Number of Openings 1 Plans and executes the construction and major modifications of Chevron's facilities. Establishes construction procedures, methods, costs, and schedules. Works closely with other functions to ensure projects are completed safely, timely, cost effectively, and are of desired quality. Manages group and employee work to align with corporate/department objectives. Direct reports are typically individual contributors. The Construction Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, high quality and efficient execution of construction project work in the refinery. Works with designs and project engineers in concept development and engineering to ensure an effective construction design is created. Key link between the field and engineering and serves as the main contact for RFI’s and change orders from the field. Leads the development of work packages and provides quality oversight of project estimates. Works with procurement to ensure all materials are on site and validates labor resources are scheduled in advance. Participates in weekly planning meetings with contractor foreman to align on daily & weekly commitments and shares production rates to hold contractors accountable to performance. Ensures safe execution of construction, contractor management, client support during execution, and effective handover into operations. Communicates progress to stakeholders and uses Lean Sigma and other change initiatives to apply industry best practices to field execution. **Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:** + Work with project/construction managers to help engineer solutions with construction in mind. This would include working with designs/project engineers in concept development and into engineering. + Fill in as construction manager for projects as needed. + Liaison between the field and engineering. Drive for construction led engineering and main contact for RFI’s and change orders from the field. + Lead the development of work packages to help drive work efficiently in the field. + Provide quality oversight of project estimates. + Work with project procurement to ensure all materials are on site and packaged to allow for easy contractor accessibility. + Validate three weeks look ahead with Program Coordinator to ensure labor and materials are lined up. + Review and approve installation work packages as part of our WFP process. + Participate in weekly Pull Planning meetings with contractor foreman to align on daily/weekly commitments. + Provides accountability to contractors to ensure that crews are working at or better than estimated production rates. + Ensures safe execution of construction work in compliance with facility and manufacturing requirements providing construction supervision, contractor management and client support during construction execution and facilities handover into operation. + Use Lean Sigma as a method for removing waste from construction activity. + Drives change initiatives to apply industry best practices to field execution. + Clearly communicates project progress to customer, stakeholders and team members. + Assist in growing construction management competency at Chevron. **Required Qualifications:** + B.S. Mechanical/Civil/Electrical/Petroleum Engineering + Quantified experience- 2 years + Technical Competency/Skills/Experience - Proven competency in construction management principles during execution phase is required. + Leadership - Demonstrated ability to facilitate team meetings, coordinate cross functional groups, identify and drive process improvements, and engage teams in a positive and constructive manner in order to drive performance and reach quality decisions. + Problem Solving - Proven ability to proactively identify and resolve project issues and problems. Innovative thinker, with an ability to develop creative solutions. + Align & Inspire - Experience interacting effectively within a large project team and at all levels of the organization. Ability to communicate with project management and internal/external stakeholders. Capable of clearly conveying project information both verbally and with reports/trend data. **Preferred Qualifications:** + B.S.
