University Communications provides a wide range of services to the university through its operational units: Montana PBS, MSU News Service, MSU Creative Services, MSU Web and Digital Communications and University Marketing. Its staff includes writers, editors, graphic designers, photographers, video producers, publications specialists, marketing specialists and Web programmers.
Reporting to MSU Web and Digital Communications, this position will serve as the primary point of contact for web support, assisting departments with website troubleshooting, content organization, CMS training, and guidance on best practices, accessibility, and branding across university websites. This position will assist the University Communications directors with other projects and duties as delegated and assist with emergency communications as needed. Duties and Responsibilities Serve as the primary point of contact for web support tickets, troubleshooting issues, and providing timely solutions to university departments regarding their websites. Assist departments in organizing website content, structure, and navigation to enhance user experience and achieve their communication goals. Conduct training sessions and create documentation to help users effectively manage and update their websites using the university’s content management system (CMS). Collaborate with web developers and designers to address more complex technical issues and implement new website features or enhancements. Proactively identify opportunities to improve departmental websites and offer guidance on web best practices, accessibility standards, and university branding guidelines. Monitor website analytics and provide departments with insights to help them understand user behavior and improve their online presence.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree or equivalent or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer service or client support role, preferably in a technical or web-related environment. Demonstrated experience with website content management systems (CMS) (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Cascade CMS, or similar). Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues related to websites or web applications. Experience in creating and delivering training materials or providing user support documentation. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human computer interaction, or user experience. Experience working in a higher education environment. Familiarity with web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1). Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics). Previous experience in project coordination or managing multiple client requests simultaneously. The Successful Candidate Will Have exceptional interpersonal skill set that allows for effective communication with customers, employees and vendors. Consistently exercise initiative, judgment and time management skills with minimal supervision. Communicate effectively with employees and the public both in person and over the phone Work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public Represent the department and MSU to others in a professional and courteous manner. Position Special Requirements/Additional Information Must possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. (If successful candidate possesses a valid out-of-state driver’s license, must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.)
