COMPUTER SCIENTIST-DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY
Summary The primary purpose of this position COMPUTER SCIENTIST, NH-1550-03, is to serve as a senior professional computer scientist with project management, execution, and operational responsibility within assigned area. Multiple positions are expected to be filled from this announcement in occupational series 1550 Computer Scientist. Responsibilities -Perform complete studies of limited scope or portions of larger projects, modifying/adapting techniques to fit situations, some requiring innovative approaches. -Utilize scientific inquiry to evaluate and predict the ability to provide desktop support for assigned projects, studies, or problems. -Provide technical guidance, advisory support, and assistance. -Attend meetings, conferences, briefings, seminars related to program planning, advanced technologies, and support system concepts. Desired Skills: -Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) management, using Agile project management principles and practices is preferred. -Experience with software test design and result analysis is a plus. -Skill in coding/developing software for either large enterprise information systems or complex electrical mechanical systems using contemporary software languages (e.g. C/C++, Python, Rust, GO, JavaScript, C#, Java, etc.) is preferred. -Knowledge of systems analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging data methods, and principles is a plus. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Employee needs to meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1500/computer-science-series-1550/ In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience in serving as an system administrator with responsibilities for planning and coordinating the installation, testing, modifying, upgrading, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of system hardware, software, and networks; works to ensure integrity and security of systems and equipment; helps to modify and adapt precedent solutions to unique or specialized requirements.. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Professional knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and practices involved in engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science to perform studies, modify standard practices, and/or resolve issues related to the planning, development, fielding, and sustainment of complex electrical systems. 2. Knowledge of systems analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging data methods, and principles. 3. Knowledge and understanding of agency, AF, Department of Defense (DoD), and national-level doctrine, regulations, policies, guidelines, requirements, and initiatives related to assigned program(s) and/or project(s). 4. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, investigate, and resolve complex issues or problems. 5. Ability to foresee the impact of changing technology. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
