Component Interconnect Specialist - Staff

General Summary:

The successful candidate will operate as a member of the Corporate Component Engineering team. Responsibilities include reviewing third party interconnect component datasheets for accuracy, working with suppliers to find interconnect component solutions, working with suppliers to develop custom interconnect solutions for 5G, 6G, AI, Automotive, IoT, Mobile, Compute, and XR platforms.  Daily responsibilities include working with the Qualcomm Core Technology Teams, Interconnect Component Suppliers, IT, Sourcing, and coordinating a Global network of interconnect activities across Qualcomm’s Global Engineer Community.

Responsible for providing component solutions for multiple groups and projects (e.g., Platform Engineering Teams, CAD, Procurement, Machine Shop etc.).Obtain and Review interconnect electrical/mechanical component datasheets for accuracy, completeness and best in class alignment with Qualcomm Platform Requirements.Create Material Control Numbers (MCNs) for electrical and non-electrical components for Qualcomm’s component database.Validate requests to make changes to existing MCNs.Communicate and interact with Interconnect Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs, suppliers) to develop Custom Interconnect Solutions, as Qualcomm is always creating the New and Different, requiring New and Different interconnect solutions.Communicate and interact with Interconnect Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs, suppliers) for samples and additional information not provided within OTS (Off the Shelf) datasheets.Interact with Component Engineers, Engineers, PdMs, PgMs, OEMs, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Planning, Support Engineering and Configuration Management.Work with hardware development and test teams to guide component selection and drive supplier’s custom development aligned with application, function, cost, and schedule.Work with hardware designers to comprehend new product needs, perform industry component search and if required create mini specifications based on unique requirements.  Work with the design team and the suppliers to evaluate, iterate and integrate new products into platform designs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

BSEE and / or BSME with EE experience.2+ years Hardware Engineering experience working with interconnect components.Familiar with COTS Interconnect for USB, PCIe, Audio, HDMI, DP, Ethernet, MIPI, Board to Board, RF, IO, Test and Power connectors.Proficient with all MS Office 365 Tools.Understanding of how to use AI to efficiently solve problems.Experience as an Interconnect Applications and/or Component Engineer.Familiarity with Automotive Interconnect Components.Knowledge base of key Interconnect component suppliers.2+ years Field Applications Engineer experience working with interconnect components.Deep knowledge for Interconnect solutions that support USB, PCIe, Audio, HDMI, DP, Ethernet, MIPI, Board to Board, RF, IO, Test and Power connectors.Backplane for Datacenter connectors.BSEE and / or BSME with EE experience.Experience in Agile or similar PLM software.Proficient with Adobe Acrobat ProProficient with VisioProficient with all MS Office 365 ToolsUnderstanding of how to use AI to efficiently solve problems.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Leverages advanced Hardware knowledge and experience to plan, optimize, verify, and test critical electronic systems, bring-up yield, circuits, mechanical systems, Digital/Analog/RF/optical systems, equipment and packaging, test systems, FPGA, and/or DSP systems.

•    Integrates complex features and functionality into hardware designs in line with proposals or roadmaps for complex products.

•    Conducts complex simulations and analyses of designs as well as implements designs with the best power, performance, and area.

•    Collaborates with cross-functional teams (e.g., design, verification, validation, software and systems engineering, architecture development teams, etc.) to implement new requirements and incorporate the latest test solutions in the production program to improve the yield, test time, and quality.

•    Evaluates, characterizes, and develops the novel manufacturing of solutions for leading edge products in the most advanced processes and bring-up product to meet customer expectations and schedules.

•    Evaluates reliability of critical materials, properties, and techniques and brings innovation, automation, and optimization to maximize productivity.

•    Evaluates complex design features to identify potential flaws, compatibility issues, and/or compliance issues.

•    Writes detailed technical documentation for complex Hardware projects.

Level of Responsibility:

•    Works independently with minimal supervision.

•    Provides supervision/guidance to other team members.

•    Decision-making is significant in nature and affects work beyond immediate work group.

•    Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information. May require negotiation, influence, tact, etc. 

•    Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$134,800.00 - $202,200.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted.
