Compliance Specialist - Plant Scherer
The Compliance Specialist maintains an in-depth knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations as they apply to the plant and uses that knowledge to ensure compliance with permits and regulations. The Compliance Specialist interfaces with corporate and regulatory agencies and ensures notification to the appropriate agency in cases of non-compliance. This individual recognizes environmental compliance issues that require attention and proactively addresses them. The successful candidate will be a champion for the plant's environmental compliance initiatives, model 'Our Values' and lead by example in all areas of compliance.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure compliance with permits by gathering data, performing necessary environmental sampling, monitoring equipment and interfacing with plant personnel and contractors Document and maintain records to support environmental and regulatory compliance Investigate non-compliance incidents, ensure notification to the appropriate regulatory agencies and direct the work activities of contractors and employees in emergency situations Coordinate environmental projects, including interfacing with employees, contractors and regulatory agencies Understand budgets and assist the team in ensuring environmental consumables, testing and permitting projects are funded Interface with corporate environmental affairs and regulatory agencies Prepare and submit all routine regulatory reporting for compliance programs at Plant Scherer Train plant personnel on compliance related issues and conduct annual compliance training Assist in writing plant environmental compliance procedures, action plans and guidelines Ensure all plant specific compliance plans are reviewed and current Coordinate environmental stewardship events Perform self-assessments on plant environmental programs developing strategies and procedures to maintain compliance Assist in the areas of hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste and universal waste handling, packaging and disposal Organize and maintain electronic and hard copy compliance files and records Review new Work Orders daily; communicate with the planner if any changes are needed. Identify and maintain O&M budget requirements on the system and sub-system. Optimize Warehouse inventory for the System. Participate in prioritizing and ranking all work orders for the system. Participate in the weekly planning meetings. Be prepared to present justification for work on the system being planned in future week schedules. Monitor financial spend on system and sub-system to accurately project monthly budgets. Initiate new Work Orders as required to address needs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related field is required Working knowledge of current environmental laws, regulations, and programs (Title V, MATS, NPDES, SPCC, CCR, etc.) as they apply to a fossil generation plant Knowledge of fossil power plant operations is preferred Knowledge of CEMS, Air Monitoring Equipment and Reporting is a plus Must have good problem solving/analytical skills and be able to troubleshoot complex systems Excellent oral and written communication skills Previous experience creating and delivering presentations Proficient with Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Knowledge of Self-Assessment processes is a plus Previous project management experiences a plus Capable of working efficiently and effectively across multiple departments Budget management experience preferred System Owner experience preferred Lockout tagout experience
