Job Description

What does a Compliance Specialist do?

An Expeditors Compliance Specialist assists the Compliance Manager in ensuring that the company meets its obligation to comply with all Company policies and all applicable laws and regulations for cargo transportation.

Compliance Specialist Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the enforcement of Expeditors’ Operational Process Standards, policies and proceduresEnsure compliance with CFRs relating to import and export shipmentsEnsure compliance with Denied Party Screening, sanctions and embargoesProvide guidance and training to staff on compliance policies and proceduresStay current with changes in trade regulations and assess their impact on operationsAdditional Duties include but not limited to:Internal Reviews and Daily MonitoringMaintaining up to date information with pertinent transportation publicationsPost Entry writing reviews, reports, activities and trendsPrepare and hold training sessions for operational staff

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1 year of industry experienceFluent in English, both written and verbalAvailable to work a standard 8 hour shift, with the possibility of OT base business needsMust be able to commute to Salt Lake City, UT onsite locationComfortable with numbers and basic mathematical skillsComfortable working in a professional business environment

Desired Qualifications/Expectations:

Compliance comprehension and high ethical standards2 years or more of agent or operations experience within logistics or customs brokerage network.  Demonstrated understanding of applicable Customs Compliance laws and regulationsAbility to relate to clients, government officials and employees at all levelsStrong familiarity with, and continued pursuit of proficiency in Expeditors’ operating systems, including GCI, CFIT, EDMS, ETMS, and, where applicable, third-party systems used to conduct Expeditors’ transactionsDG certification(s)Proven research, problem solving and follow-up skillsCustoms Broker license (U.S.) or similar non-U.S. country license, where available (Preferred)IATA/FIATA Cargo Certification (Preferred)
