Work hard, have fun, and make history working with the North America Regulatory Intelligence, Safety, & Compliance (RISC) Legal team. We are looking for someone who can navigate complex product regulations and develop and implement related compliance actions. This position requires partnering with legal and business teams on proposed actions, and coordinating across multiple teams using technology to implement processes and policies to effectuate those actions. There is a significant project management component to this role.
You must have strong prior work experience in a professional setting, a positive attitude, and strong organizational skills. The ability to effectively communicate is essential, both verbally and in writing. The role will require that you be self-motivated to learn the operations and will involve both independent and team work in a fast-paced environment that is constantly changing.
Key job responsibilities
- Monitoring product regulatory developments in the US
- Partnering with regulators and responding to their inquiries about products sold in Amazon's online store
- Working with business and operational teams to implement compliance controls
- Setting compliance strategies for long-term initiatives
- Engaging with selling partners and helping them improve their product compliance
A day in the life
As a Compliance Specialist on the RISC Legal team, you will be responsible for monitoring and supervising the implementation of product regulatory compliance controls that impact the products sold in Amazon's online US store. It's a high judgment position that requires nimbleness and insistence upon very high standards. You will engage with several internal and external stakeholders to drive initiatives to completion. Compliance Specialists are responsible for specific compliance categories that are either product-specific or regulation-specific (i.e., requirements that span multiple categories).
About the team
RISC Legal's mission is to maximize customer trust and lawful product selection while minimizing unlawful selection, product regulatory risk to Amazon, and negative value actions on customer trust. Our vision is to run a compliance program where customers have no concerns that the products they buy are safe, legitimate, and compliant with the laws that impact them. We help selling partners solve their compliance challenges in a low friction, low cost manner. We want regulators to trust and appreciate Amazon's product compliance engagement model and program.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of risk management, including experience with legal, government agencies, regulatory policy, and/or risk analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience interacting directly with regulators, including federal and state agencies
- Experience researching, analyzing and synthesizing federal and state regulations
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and adjust to changes quickly while meeting deadlines
- Great organizational skills with exceptional follow through and attention to detail
- Prior experience with project management
- Data driven decision-making experience
- Strong oral and written communication capabilities
- Great research skills (including legal research, if possible) and the ability to sort through complex documentation
- Proven ability to manage multiple internal and external escalations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $74,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $163,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
