WSP is currently initiating a search for a Compaction Inspector for Columbia, MD office and working for our client in Laurel, MD. Be involved in projects with our CM Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solve their challenges.
Your Impact
Roles and Responsibilities
+ Inspects compaction and trench backfilling
+ Validates third party geotechnical inspections
+ Observes compaction work in process
+ Coordinates restoration work with contractors and local authorities
+ Complete Daily Inspection Reports, Timesheets and Mileage reports in a timely manner
+ Provide training to new inspectors
+ Assist the Pipeline Construction Division Contract Managers as needed
+ Attend staff meetings as scheduled
+ Obtain required certifications and training as prescribed
+ Testing will be performed on various pipeline projects as designated by the client’s Contract manager
+ Perform ten or more compaction tests per day and to be familiar with all commonly accepted geotechnical practices pertaining to such
+ Will be expected to respond to emergency work outside of usual hours should issues arise
+ Responsible for ensuring full compliance with specifications.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
**Required Qualifications**
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ 0 - 2 years experience with compaction testing operations or inspections or three years progressively responsible experience in maintenance, construction or sub-professional engineering work
+ Practical knowledge of paving and landscaping restoration
+ Knowledge of soil compaction methods and testing
+ Knowledge of environmental regulations, including sediment and erosion control
+ Ability to interpret and understand client’s specifications and standards
+ Knowledge or basic mathematics
+ Work outdoors in inclement weather and possess the ability to lift objects that weigh up to 50 lbs.
+ Communicates effectively orally and in writing and able to work in a team environment
+ Basic knowledge of computer programs, including but not limited to Word, Excel and Office Outlook
+ Must fluently communicate in English, both orally and in writing
+ Compaction inspections shall have inspected six pipeline construction projects in the past two years
+ OSHA certified
+ Nuke Gauge Certification - Active
+ Confined Space certification
+ Experience in storm water management and environmental projects.
+ Highly familiar with construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, processes, methods and techniques.
+ Highly familiar with relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
+ Solid knowledge of Oracle Contract Management (CM-14)/Oracle Unifier or e-Builder.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
+ Valid driver’s license

Compensation:
**Expected Salary (all locations): $27-29/hour**
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law
