Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Telemundo 49 is seeking a passionate, driven, and bilingual Community and Sports Multimedia Journalist/Reporter to join our award-winning news team. This unique role combines a strong focus on community-based sports reporting with coverage of major professional, collegiate, and local sporting events across the Tampa Bay area.
The ideal candidate is a natural storyteller who understands how sports intersect with culture, identity, and local pride. You will be responsible for developing enterprise stories that spotlight local athletes, teams, community impact initiatives, and fan experiences that matter most to our Spanish-speaking audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Pitch, develop, and produce original sports-related community stories with a strong local focus.
+ Cover major sports events and teams in the Tampa Bay area.
+ Cultivate relationships with local sports organizations, schools, and community leaders to generate exclusive content.
+ Operate as a multimedia journalist: shoot, write, voice, and edit your own stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
+ Report live from the field and studio with clarity, accuracy, and journalistic integrity.
+ Produce content for digital, social media, and OTT platforms, including behind-the-scenes and community engagement coverage.
+ Collaborate with producers, assignment desk, and digital team to maximize reach and impact of stories.
+ Strategize and execute local coverage plan for both local and professional sports
+ Attend station events and represent Telemundo 49 in the community as a brand ambassador.
Qualifications:
+ Must be an experienced journalist with a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field in communication and/or must have proven equivalent experience.
+ Must be able to speak, read, and write perfect Spanish and must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
+ Minimum 2 years of experience reporting in Spanish on camera, preferably in sports and/or community journalism.
+ Strong understanding of the Tampa Bay sports scene and Hispanic community issues.
+ Fluent in spoken and written Spanish; proficient in English.
+ Proven ability to shoot and edit video.
+ Must be comfortable with live reporting, enterprise storytelling, and quick turnarounds.
+ Knowledge of social media platforms and digital content strategies.
+ Excellent news judgment, creative ideas, and reporting skills a must.
+ Must have leadership qualities, be detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle intense deadline pressure.

+ Must be 18 years or older.
+ Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
