Job Overview:
The Community Development Specialist participates in program planning and development as it relates to school-based services. The Community Development Specialist is the first person our clients meet when seeking services at Teen Guide Zone, a school-based program that resides at Abraham Clark High School. The Community Development Specialist responds to the immediate needs of program participants as they enter office, such as signing in or registering students, directing students to their appointments, and providing emotional support while students wait or if a student does not have an appointment.
The Community Development Specialist must have outstanding organizational skills in order to manage a number of ongoing projects and daily tasks, impeccable relational skills in order to create and nurture relationships within the program, the schools, the hospital and all other stakeholders, and be a team player, receive feedback, guidance and instruction as the role has many demands and shifting priorities.
The Community Development Specialist plays a key role in supporting high school students through crisis intervention and social-emotional support, while also providing clerical and programmatic assistance to a three-person team. This position emphasizes relationship-building and coordination across the high school, the local middle school, and our partnering hospital. The ideal candidate thrives in collaborative environments, values professional boundaries, and adapts easily to the evolving needs of students and the school community.
This individual is responsible to build, nurture, and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders such as the high school student body and staff, and the local middle school, to spread the understanding of the program in all levels of the communities we serve. The right person represents the student program at relevant school and community meetings or events, and also serves as a liaison to strengthen partnerships that promote student wellness and engagement.
