Community Benefit Senior Financial Analyst

Job Summary and Purpose

The Senior Community Benefit Financial Analyst is an important contributor to CommonSpirit Health’s identification, collection, documentation and reporting of community benefit expense data and program information, in support of its tax-exempt status and charitable mission.  The position is a member of a health system team that provides direction, tools, procedures, instruction, consultation and technical support in community benefit.  Its core role is to support sound reporting of community benefit program expenses.

The position collaborates with multi-disciplinary system-level and local market teams to help ensure thorough reporting practices that are compliant with federal (Internal Revenue Service) and state regulations, Catholic Health Association guidance and organizational policies.  This key role helps provide valid and statistically credible information to demonstrate the commitment and beneficial impacts of CommonSpirit Health for the communities it serves.

Essential Functions include: 

Collaborates on the health system community benefit team and with multiple other departments (e.g., financial reporting, accounting, reimbursement, decision support, tax and community health) to assess and strengthen community benefit reporting procedures and documentation.  Calculates and helps enter into the community benefit system of record certain community benefit expense data, including Financial Assistance, Medicaid and Graduate Medical Education.Performs reconciliations of financial reports and community benefit reports.Analyzes hospital community benefit expense data and related program information to evaluate its completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations and organizational policies.  Recommends corrections and enhancements.Produces reports and maintains analytic and reporting tools to deliver useful information for goal-setting, planning, budgeting, advocacy and communications activities.


Qualifications

Required Experience and Education

Bachelors in Finance, Accounting, Business or related discipline. Equivalent experience (with a finance focus) may be considered.  Minimum 4 - 6 years of work experience in the non-profit and/or health care sectors performing finance-related functions.Experience with/knowledge of health care finance concepts and practices (including patient financial assistance and Medicaid) Experience in non-profit organization financial analysis and reporting  Experience with or working knowledge of hospital community benefit concepts, requirements and regulatory environment
