Job Summary
The Communications Specialist plays a key role in developing and executing strategic communications initiatives that support Southern Company’s internal and external messaging. This position requires a seasoned communicator with 3–5 years of experience in corporate communications, marketing, or public relations. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and content strategist who can manage complex projects across multiple formats—including print, digital, video, and live events—and collaborate effectively across teams.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement integrated communications plans that align with business objectives and stakeholder needs. Research, write, edit, and distribute high-impact content across channels including internal websites, newsletters, executive messaging, infographics, and videos. Partner with subject matter experts and leadership to shape messaging, clarify goals, and build content calendars. Provide strategic input on communication timing, tone, and delivery vehicles to maximize engagement. Lead or support production of communication materials, ensuring quality and timely delivery. Analyze communication effectiveness and recommend improvements based on metrics and feedback. Support special events and campaigns with tailored messaging and collateral.Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field required 3+ years of professional experience in corporate communications, marketing, or public relations required Proven ability to write and edit content for diverse formats and audiences. Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience with internal communications platforms and content management systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel); familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and web publishing tools is a plus. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; able to influence and build relationships across departments. Creative thinker with a strategic mindset and a passion for storytelling. Willingness to travel occasionally.Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
The incumbent works in an office environment four days week.
