Communications Manager - Birmingham

We are seeking an experienced **Communications Manager** to lead and manage communications for our Birmingham-based attractions including, but not restricted to, the historical wonders of Warwick Castle and chocolate adventures of Cadbury World! This is a key PR role within the UK Corporate Affairs Team, reporting into the Head of Communications (UK Gateway) and working closely with the Communications Director for the UK.
The primary focus of this unique role will be on our Birmingham Gateway attractions, where you’ll be responsible for shaping and protecting their reputation and drive forward best-in-class public relations and communications initiatives that put Merlin Entertainments at the forefront entertainment destinations.
In line with evolving business priorities, there may also be a requirement to provide communications support to Merlin’s attractions beyond Birmingham with a particular focus on other Gateway sites.
This is a hybrid position based at our Birmingham cluster.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Develop and implement tailored communications strategies, aligned with both local business priorities and Merlin’s wider corporate affairs strategy.
+ Lead all public relations activity for the Birmingham attractions, including press office management, media relations, campaign execution, and proactive storytelling.
+ Support the business with effective issues and crisis management, including participation in the UK-wide out-of-hours on-call rota.
+ Work with an external PR agency to deliver headline-grabbing, creative campaigns that drive awareness, visitation, and positive sentiment.
+ Work with senior leaders, including the Regional Director and General Managers, to support engagement with key stakeholders such as local authorities, MPs, community forums, and regional organisations.
+ Support with the delivery of Global internal communications across Birmingham sites, ensuring employees across are engaged, informed, and connected.
+ Collaborate with the broader UK Communications Team on nationwide initiatives and ensure synergy across all communication channels and messaging.
+ As required, support on communications activity across Merlin’s attractions beyond Birmingham with a particular focus on other Gateway sites.
**Qualifications & Experience**
+ Proven experience in a communications, PR, or corporate affairs role, ideally within a fast-paced, consumer-facing industry.
+ Strong understanding of media relations, stakeholder engagement, and crisis communications.
+ A confident communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills.
+ Strategic thinker with the ability to plan, prioritise, and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously.
+ Able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
+ Experience within tourism, leisure, hospitality, or entertainment sectors is advantageous, but not essential.
