Communications Manager, Italy
Uber
**About the Role**
Uber is seeking an ambitious, well-connected communications professional who will be responsible for Uber's PR efforts in Italy. The role will be based in Milan or Rome and will report into our Head of Communications for Europe.
You will play a crucial role in developing and executing strategic communication plans to tell Uber’s story in Italy, helping to change the way people think about the role of technology in providing solutions to society's toughest challenges. From transforming the way people get around their city to explain the real world impact Uber has in the communities where it operates.
This will include corporate, policy, consumer and event PR. This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills (both English and Italian), strong media relationships, strategic thinking, finger on the pulse insights, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
**What the Candidate Will Do**
01. Develop and deliver strategic communications plans and campaigns that support the business goals, and help advance Uber’s reputation among key external stakeholders.
02. Act as a business partner to cross-functional teams, not only providing communications counsel, but importantly helping steer the strategic direction of the business.
03. Lead the development of our brand and profile with the media and third parties in Italy, telling the local story of Uber and the impact our technology has on the communities we serve.
04. Help define the big picture strategic narratives and bring them to life through creative communications activities.
05. Tell our story—and the story of how we’re transforming transportation, car ownership, and making our cities better—in creative, inspiring ways that resonate with journalists, their audiences and third party stakeholders across Italy.
06. Ensure Uber is at the forefront of online and real world conversations where we can be a thought leader and engage constructively, whether that’s on mobility, innovation, climate, safety or economic impact.
07. Rapid response media relations and proactive press engagement and education.
08. Partner with global and regional communications teams to lead communications strategies, and campaigns, that promote and enhance the overall reputation of Uber
09. Writing in all its forms, including speechwriting.
10. Manage external agencies.
**What the Candidate Will Need**
1. 6+ years communications experience with a proven track record of managing complex communications and issues management with a diverse group of stakeholders — either for a company, a third party or in government. Fluency in Italian and English, both oral and written, is essential.
2. _A self starter:_ Uber is a company of entrepreneurs and we want to work with people who enjoy building things from the bottom up too. Stuff changes fast in our world so you’ll need to be highly adaptable as well as calm under pressure
3. _A great advocate_: We’re looking for people who can distill complex ideas into simple, honest and compelling communications backed up by intellectually credible arguments. You’ll need to write well and have the creative ability to tell stories—about our product, culture, people and the ways we’re helping to improve life for passengers, drivers and cities.
4. _A creative thinker:_ You’ll be able to analyse trends and identify creative ways to make Uber relevant. You can build campaigns from scratch and are able to work cross-functionally with various teams to create and amplify ideas.
5. _Experienced spokesperson:_ You’ll have strong media relations experience and expertise in shaping a story and delivering it in a compelling way.
6. _A strong influencer:_ We succeed by building effective relationships, and using those relationships to enable the best possible outcome for the Uber brand. You’ll have a bias for action in everything you do—and a willingness to engage in debates with a track record of making data-driven decisions.
7. _A team player_: Success at Uber depends on the ability to organise different teams (internally and externally) around shared goals. It’s why we’re looking for well organized people who enjoy working with others to get stuff done—and who can deal with the ambiguity that sometimes comes from working cross-functionally.
**Bonus Points**
1. The ideal candidate will have worked in a busy press office across numerous issues/crises.
2. Ministerial or Government experience would be highly valued.
3. The candidate will work across the business and will need to be a great all rounder - someone who can dive into new projects, a strong writer and strong verbal reasoning.
4. Good stakeholder management. The right candidate will need to successfully manage both external and internal stakeholders.
5. Excellent understanding of the media industry and extensive network of relationships with media and influencers across Italy is a must.
6. Strength of character to thrive where the team is lean and the work is fast paced.
