About the Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO): The IGIO facilitates developing, maintaining, distributing, and using comprehensive statewide geographic data and geospatial technology to empower governments, universities, and businesses to address issues affecting Indiana’s physical, economic, and social well-being. We: + Coordinate geospatial efforts between and among federal, state, and local governments. + Integrate GIS data developed and maintained by state agencies and political subdivisions into a statewide base map. + Develop and maintain statewide framework data layers associated with a statewide base map (orthoimagery, elevation, cadastre/parcels, PLSS, geodetic controls, addresses, street centerlines, government boundaries, and many more + Provide public access to GIS and framework data in locations throughout Indiana. Internship Overview: The Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) is seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the development of communication materials and strategies that support the IGIO's mission. The Communications Intern will work closely with the Deputy GIO for Programs & Outreach to assist in developing templates, organizing events, enhancing our digital presence, and engaging with various stakeholders. Hours / Duration: You will be scheduled for 15 - 20 hours per week as arranged with the supervisor. The initial commitment is for the fall 2025 semester with the potential of extending to the spring 2026 semester. Salary Statement: The hourly wage for this position is $17.24 per hour. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: + Participate in daily stand-up meetings with the Deputy GIO to plan and prioritize tasks. + Develop templates for slide decks, Word documents, and other materials to streamline workflows for the IGIO. + Develop communication plans for key IGIO programs and initiatives. + Assist in the planning and execution of the annual GIS Day event, including coordinating with multiple state agencies and helping to manage logistics for presentations and attendees. + Create and manage content for the IGIO’s social media platforms, blog, and website to improve our online presence and engagement. + Collaborate with team members to develop and refine branding and communication strategies. + Support video, photography, and sound editing projects to enhance the IGIO’s communication materials. + Write and edit articles, press releases, newsletters, and other written content. + Assist with email marketing efforts, including the creation and distribution of newsletters. + Help manage contact lists and databases. + Work on a professional project aligned with your interests, culminating in a final product to showcase your impact on the IGIO team. What You'll Need for Success: The ideal candidate for this role should have the following qualifications and skills: + Currently enrolled in a degree program related to communications, graphic design, media studies, or a related field. + Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling content. + Experience with graphic design software and the Microsoft Office Suite. + Familiarity with social media platforms such as LinkedIn and YouTube. + Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. + Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. + A passion for learning and applying new skills in a professional setting. + Enthusiasm for contributing to projects that have a real-world impact. + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
