Purpose:
Stewards Individual Placements, a division of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural and cultural resources. 

 

The Communications and Community Engagement (CACE) team supports national parks and programs within the National Capital Region (NCR) by providing guidance and technical expertise in several areas. The digital communications program within CACE provides subject matter expertise to help parks create innovative and informative experiences online for everyone. The National Capital Region of the National Park Service serves approximately 55 million locals and visitors from around the world that come to the National Capital Region national parks for inspiration, relaxation, exercise and fun.

 

Stewards Individual Placements, in partnership with the National Capital Region, is seeking a Communications Fellow (ADA Communications) who will be responsible for collecting and compiling access/attainability data on National Park sites within the National Capital Region, formatting the information gathered for publication, and publishing the information to NPS.gov

Description of Duties:

·       The work is a mixture of office work and field work in national parks·       Day trips to various NPS sites within the region to collect data·       Use a digital level, measuring tape, camera, and/or other tools to measure and record data about site features such as buildings and their amenities, trails and trail heads, parking options, and campgrounds·       Use a rubric and format collected data/images/descriptions to prepare for publication·       Publish data and information to the park site’s ADA/Access pages using established criteria

 
Qualifications:

Be a United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alienBe between the ages of 18 – 30, or up to age 35 with Veteran statusAgrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History CheckCommit to 36 weeks of serviceMust possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving historyEffective communication skillsBasic computer skills including word processing, webpage design using a content management system, and spreadsheetsBasic photography skillsAbility to work independently, travel along trails, and collect data via use of tape measurements and levels

 Time Requirements:

Typically, this position is expected to serve Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, but exact service schedules may vary. A lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service Member may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.

 

Orientation and Training:

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.  Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
