Duties Description Support an Assemblymember or leadership office in crafting, delivering, and amplifying the official messaging to constituents, media, and stakeholders. Drive both traditional and digital communication strategies that reflect legislative priorities and community engagement goals.Key Responsibilities· Draft press releases, media advisories, statements, quotes, and op-eds.· Prepare talking points, newsletters, email/text blasts, robocalls, and website content to inform constituents.· Manage social media accounts: develop strategy, draft posts, coordinate visuals, monitor engagement.· Plan and script a public access television show. · Build and maintain media lists; cultivate relationships with reporters and outlets.· Attend/staff community meetings, press conferences, town halls, and public events, often as the member’s proxy.· Collaborate with district staff, vendors, and designers (e.g., for graphic materials, email campaigns).· Monitor media coverage and public sentiment; report relevant news and trends to the member/staff.· Help implement communication plans and support strategic messaging goals.· Support district office constituent services. · Become certified as a notary public and assist with the no-cost notarization service.
Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications· Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field.· 2–3+ years of experience in communications, preferably in government or legislative offices.· Exceptional writing, editing, and copy-editing skills (print and digital).· Proven social media experience and familiarity with digital marketing tools.· Strong organizational ability, capacity to prioritize tight deadlines, and handle long hours (including nights/weekends during session).· Political awareness, good judgment, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.· Media relations and stakeholder engagement experience (e.g. building coalitions).· Full-time, based in the Assembly Member’s NYC district office.
