The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is an
arm’s-length federal agency responsible for the shared stewardship of the lands

Reporting to the director, internal communications,
the **communications advisor – internal (rep term for a period up to 6 months)**
is responsible for internal communications at the port authority. Specifically,
the communications advisor, internal develops and executes internal
communications strategies to enhance access to information for port authority
employees. The advisor works with departments across the organization and
provides strategic advice to improve clarity and reach of information, mitigate
issues and provide communications support for change management. The
communications advisor, internal also works with subject matter experts to
create content in clear, relatable language to improve visibility and
understanding of the port authority’s mandate, vision and strategic priorities.
**What you do:**
+ Enhance accessibility of information bycontributing to the development and implementation of internal communicationsprograms, processes and channels
+ Provide strategicrecommendations to enhance the intranet end-user experience (visual design,navigation, content)
+ Work closely with theinformation services department to improve the intranet’s structure and layout
+ Prepare and send weeklyall-staff HubTalk emails to enhance access to information
+ Design and deliver monthlytown hall meetings, including reviewing presentation materials and recommendingimprovement, providing speaking notes for executives and preparing speakers
+ Post content to the Hub(intranet)
+ Prepare monthly HubTalk formanagers for director, communications to send
+ Promote internalcommunications channels to new employees at employee orientation sessions
+ Ensure consistency ofmessaging in all communications materials and provide recommendations on how tocross-promote content strategically
+ Improve visibility andunderstanding of the organization’s mission and vision by ensuring high-qualityinternal communication materials are developed and aligned with the threepillars of the sustainable port definition
+ Develop an internal editorialcalendar to promote the work being done across the organization
+ Create strategic content forHub (intranet) stories, town hall presentations, all-staff emails etc.
+ Provide context aroundinternal communications materials to make information relatable to employees
+ Prepare internally focused stories to provideemployees with clear, timely communication on the issues that matter
+ Seek ways to leverage existingcontent and promote understanding and awareness of progress made toward meetingorganizational goals
+ Support internal campaignswith internal communications strategies designed to engage employees
+ Continue to develop internalcommunications capacity within the organization
+ Promote the use of internal communicationguidelines
+ Provide timely, value-adding support servicesto other departments
+ Support managers as key communicators
+ Work with content ownersacross the organization to provide guidance on appropriate voice and writingstyle, and review for consistency before publishing
+ Anticipate issues and concerns and provide aplatform through Hub stories, town hall meetings and email to address potentialtopics of concern before they become issues
+ Support change management efforts across theorganization
+ Work with project teams torecommend communication strategies to effectively influence project outcomes
**What you bring:**
+ Must have a university degreein English, communications, journalism or another acceptable degree, along witha minimum four years of strategic communications experience in a publicrelations agency or corporate environment.
+ Must have experience managingemployee communications and a demonstrated ability to manage onlinecommunities, with the ability to influence key stakeholders.
+ Excellent writing and editingskills are required, with knowledge of Canadian Press standards.
+ Must have experience workingwith senior management.
+ Must be a self-motivatedindividual with an excellent command of the English language and effectivewriting, editing and story-telling skills with an ability to synthesize complexinformation from diverse sources into simplified language for a range of audiences.
+ Strong critical thinking,problem-solving and time-management, and strategic awareness skills with theability to make informed strategic
+ Must be able to workindependently and be a team player who demonstrates professionalism and tactand can liaise effectively.
+ Must have technologicalcompetency, including proficiency in MS Office.
