We are looking for a Communication System Engineer

Permanent responsibility:

To contribute to the activity within the frame of programmes and studies undertaken by the “uW Payloads, Data Handling and Communication Engineering”  Unit as Communication System Engineer.

Task description:

In the frame of the design phases to support the definition of  uW Instruments and communication subsystem functional and performance requirements performing the required analysis and assessment. Activity related to uW  Instruments (P/L) and Comm. S/S (e.g. Radiometers, P/L data Handling and Transmission systems, Communication systems, radar related systems).Definition, implementation and maintenance of models and software tools for simulating the P/L or S/S functionalities and main performances.Definition, implementation and maintenance of RF budgets.Definition of related command and control interface.Definition, implementation and maintenance of related Link Budgets as applicable.Contribution to definition of Payloads or S/S architecture.Definition, implementation and maintenance of related I/F and  budgets (Data Handling, Electrical, RF).Support to relevant equipment and sub-assembly, internal and external supplier technical monitoring and relevant review attendance.In the frame of the verification and validation phases of the programme, assessing/evaluating P/L or S/S functionalities and performance on the basis of test results.To support as System and Verification engineer the relevant AIT campaign as applicable.Participation to meetings/reviews with both internal and external customersPreparation of documents and presentations.Contribution to programme reports and minutes of meetingsPart of the activity is conducted under Italian Defense National Authority Rules. The candidate shall be eligible for the relevant security authorization/clearance

Master’s degree in Electronic/Telecommunication EngineeringBackground in the field of communication systems, with focus on space applicationsKnowledge of digital and RF electronic for data handling, processing and wide band communication, TT&C.Knowledge of the main on-board data interfaceBUS: MIL 1553 B, CANSpaceWire, High Speed Serial Link (WizardLink)Knowledge of radio communication and related protocolsInformation theoryadvanced coding and modulation (e.g. Turbo coding, SCCC and DVBS2)Modelling/simulation of HPA non-linearity, and relevant compensation algorithm in DSP Domain for high order modulation schemeModelling/simulation of frequency response impairment (Flatness, Group delay variation) and relevant equalization technique/algo).Modelling of atmosphere propagation effect (loss, de-polarization and cross-polarization effect) CCSDS protocols for space data linkData compression technique/AlgoKnowledge of MatlabProgramming language (e.g. C, Visual Basic)MS Office products.Knowledge of the English language for both written and verbal communication.Attitude to teamworkPart of the activity is conducted under Italian Defense National Authority Rules.
