SUMMARY:  Describes the job's primary purpose or contribution to the department/organization.

 

The Commissioning Engineer to support major construction and commissioning work for large infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on, on-site role focused on mechanical, HVAC, and electrical systems commissioning. The Commissioning Engineer will ensure every system not only works but performs exactly as designed.

 

The Commissioning Engineer will serve as the designated commissioning authority, supporting efforts from design review through testing, reporting, and final turnover. You’ll also play a key role in plan checks, facilities condition assessments, and construction administration serving as the direct link between our team, contractors, and client stakeholders.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned in conformance with state and federal regulations.

 

Serve as the Commissioning Engineer on assigned projects Develop and manage commissioning plans and documentation Conduct design reviews and provide commissioning-related comments Lead commissioning meetings and coordinate with design and construction teams Perform functional performance testing and verify system installation of: HVAC Systems Building Automation Systems Lighting Controls Domestic Hot Water Systems Additional systems as needed Prepare and manage pre-functional checklists and test procedures Oversee contractor-provided operator training and training documentation Complete and submit final commissioning reports Conduct warranty-phase commissioning follow-ups Required to travel by Plane, Motor Vehicle, Train (up to 30% of the time) to client sites across the U.S. Overnight stays away from home may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

 

Preferred: Accredited Professional Degree in Engineering Required: Minimum five years professional experience within construction realm.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

 

Preferred: one of the following commissioning certifications: BCxP Commissioning Process Management Provider (ASHRAE), CBCP Certified Building Commissioning Professional (AEE), CxA Certified Commissioning Authority (ACG), CxPP Commissioning Process Professional (NEBB), or CCP Certified Commissioning Professional (BCCB). Valid driver's license is required with no significant MVA points/violations (clean driving record). Employees who incur $2,000 or more per year in company-related travel expenses will be required to obtain a Corporate Credit Card. Employees who incur less than $2,000 per year in company-related travel expenses will be required to have sufficient personal credit to cover their business travel costs.

 

Other qualifications:

 

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent time management skills including ability to perform multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and ability to work independently. You can traverse, observe equipment, and record data and photos on safely accessible roofs and other high or open areas, which may require ladder and/or hatch access. You are comfortable and willing to work in densely equipped mechanical and electrical spaces requiring dedicated focus on safety protocol.

 

Other Qualifications:

Ability to communicate both verbally and in written form concepts and ideas to Architects, Engineers, and Owner representatives. Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule. Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. Highly collaborative spirit and experience working in a team Problem-solving skills to quickly address issues that arise on-site and keep projects on track

 

Language Ability: Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and standard operating procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, peers, and technical field staff.

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

 

Technology Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in operating a computer, having knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, and project management software, to include Facility Grid and CxAlloy, Advanced Excel, Microsoft Suite and business specific software and other project specific applications. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to operate an electronic tablet in the field for live data collection.

While performing the office/offsite duties of this job:

The employee is regularly required to use hands. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the home or company office environment is usually quiet.
