The Opportunity
The Commercial Manager leads the commercial function of the project, ensuring all financial, contractual, and commercial aspects are managed effectively and in line with both the JV agreement and client requirements. This role provides strategic direction on contract administration, cost management, risk, and financial forecasting to maximise commercial outcomes while ensuring compliance and strong stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial & Contract Management
Oversee contract administration for head contract and all subcontractor packages, ensuring compliance with terms and change control procedures. Provide commercial advice and interpretation of contract clauses to project teams. Lead management of variations, claims, disputes, and notices in accordance with contract timelines.
Cost Control & Financial Reporting
Work closely with finance teams to monitor budgets, actuals, cash flow, and cost to complete (CTC). Provide monthly commercial reports to project leadership and JV board.
Procurement & Subcontractor Management
Support high-value procurement negotiations in collaboration with the Procurement Lead. Ensure subcontractor agreements are appropriately scoped, risk-assessed, and commercially sound. Monitor subcontractor performance and manage commercial claims and extensions of time.
Risk & Opportunity Management
Work with all functions to identify, quantify, and manage commercial and contractual risks. Develop mitigation strategies and capture commercial opportunities that improve project margins. Maintain the project risk register and coordinate with relevant teams to monitor commercial risk exposure.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure compliance with JV governance protocols, delegations, and reporting obligations. Support audits and ensure commercial processes align with corporate and statutory requirements. Uphold ethical and transparent commercial practices across the project.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with the client’s commercial representatives to resolve issues and maintain positive working relationships. Interface with JV partners’ commercial teams to ensure alignment and reporting accuracy. Lead and mentor a team of contract administrators, quantity surveyors, and commercial officer
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 10+ years’ experience in commercial roles within the construction or infrastructure sector. Strong knowledge of contract law , project controls, and financial governance. Demonstrated contract management experience for a contractor or subcontract in a PPP, large D&C or EPC Project. Demonstrated ability to manage high-value contracts and complex stakeholder environments. Advanced skills in commercial software and systems (e.g., Jobpac, SAP, JD Edwards, or similar). Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership capabilities. Experience working within a Joint Venture or Alliance contracting model. Prior involvement in PPPs, D&C, or EPC projects. Exposure to social procurement and local industry participation reporting
