College of Nursing - Lead Peer Tutor

Position Overview 
The Lead Peer Tutor role is designed for nursing students who provide academic support to designated student cohorts based on program progression. Rather than selecting a single course, each Lead Peer Tutor will support a course(s) aligned with a specific level of the nursing curriculum. This role emphasizes collaborative leadership, relationship-building, and the promotion of independent, active learning strategies. 

Lead Peer Tutors serve as mandatory group tutors, develop academic resources, and offer guidance to fellow peer tutors. They play a key role in helping students build confidence, adopt effective study strategies, and approach their coursework with resilience and a growth mindset. 

Cohort Assignments 
The Lead Peer Tutor team will consist of five tutors, each assigned to one of the following groups:  

Freshman/Prerequisite Sciences 
Courses: Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology I (Fall), Anatomy & Physiology II (Spring) 

Level 2 
Course: Foundations of Care Management 
Course: Pathophysiology 

Level 3 – Group A 
Courses: Care 1, Pharmacology 1 

Level 3 – Group B 
Courses: Care 2, Pharmacology 2 

*Level 4 (Care III and Care IV) will be supported by alumni tutors and the Student Success Graduate Assistant* 

Primary Responsibilities 

Commit to at least one academic year of employment. Work a maximum of 8 hours per week  Serve as a lead tutor for a designated cohort of peer tutors, based on program progression Provide group tutoring for courses aligned to each level, based on your interests and experience. Develop and share at least one high-quality review tool or practice resource per semester for the NUR course you support. These will be added to the ICON Peer Tutoring Resource Library. Host optional virtual office hours (time-permitting) to support fellow peer tutors—offering guidance, sharing strategies, and troubleshooting challenges. Communicate promptly with the Student Success Coordinator and provide feedback about student needs or recurring challenges. Participate in a tutor training focused on adult learning principles, inclusive support, and ethical practices. Uphold confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and program policies.
