ResponsibilitiesAs the DNA Statistics Analytics Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the CODIS unit, you will provide specialized expertise to both development and maintenance teams regarding the requirements, business rules, and statistical methodologies central to the CODIS portfolio of applications. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and scientific validity of forensic DNA statistical analyses—particularly with respect to population genetics and kinship calculations.
Serve as the primary expert for forensic and kinship statistics relating to CODIS applications, guiding requirements definition, system enhancement, and ongoing maintenance.Advise software development teams on the statistical logic and population genetics underpinning DNA analysis and match probability algorithms.Ensure that application features and workflows properly implement scientifically accepted methods for interpreting DNA profile statistics.Collaborate on and audit development/testing practices to ensure the integrity and accuracy of calculations involving population genetic models.Contribute to determination and documentation of business rules, acceptance criteria, and validation steps for analytic functionality.Support troubleshooting and validation of statistical modules, providing SME guidance during root-cause analysis and solution design.Communicate complex statistical and genetic concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Qualifications Active Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance)Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees degree in Forensic Science, Genetics, Statistics, or a closely related field.5+ years of relevant experience in forensic DNA analysis or population genetics analytics.CODIS experience supporting law enforcement or government forensic informatics projects.Experience preparing or reviewing validation studies of forensic DNA statistical methods is considered a strong plus.In-depth expertise with the CODIS application and its role in forensic DNA analysis.Advanced knowledge of forensic and kinship statistics commonly used in criminal justice and forensic applications, including likelihood ratio calculations, match probabilities, and familial searching.Strong grounding in population genetics, including population database structure, allele frequency interpretation, statistical calculations for various population groups, and application to forensic analysis.Demonstrated experience supporting software development teams as a subject matter expert, especially in requirements capture, business rule definition, and acceptance testing for analytics modules.Excellent documentation, analytical, and communication skills. Pay Transparency Statement AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $129,800.00/Yr. - USD $216,700.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
