Coder II - UPMC Washington
_We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Coder II to join our dynamic healthcare team here at UPMC Washington for our Physicians Group! The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding systems including ICD-10-CM, & CPT. This role is responsible for accurately abstracting and coding clinical data from medical records to ensure proper billing, compliance, and data integrity. If you are passionate about healthcare, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are committed to excellence in coding practices, we invite you to apply and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality patient care._ **Responsibilities:** + Utilize computer applications and resources essential to completing the coding process efficiently. + Meet and maintain charge lag and appropriate coding productivity standards within the time frame established by management staff. + Refer problem accounts to appropriate coding or management personnel for resolution. + Identify incomplete documentation in the medical record and formulate a physician query to obtain missing documentation and/or clarification to accurately complete the coding process. + Monitor and resolve coding edits and denials in a timely manner to ensure optimal reimbursement. + Make forward progress within the period toward meeting coding accuracy standards of the departments within the first year of employment. + Utilize standard coding guidelines, principles and coding clinics to assign the appropriate ICD and CPT codes for all record types to ensure accurate reimbursement. (i.e. use of coding clinics, CPT Assistant, etc) and to determine the level of acuity. + Review coding for accuracy and completeness prior to submission to billing system utilizing CCI edits. What to know about this role & what we are looking for in our candidate: + This position will be coding for primary care/family medicine. + Experience with family medicine/primary care coding, and structure of physician residency programs a plus; soft skills with training and education to staff and providers a plus. Schedule & Travel Details: + Work Hours: Monday through Friday, with flexible start times between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, ending between 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM (8-hour shifts). + Overtime: Opportunities for overtime may be available! + Hybrid Work Model: Enjoy a balanced schedule with 3 remote workdays (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday) and 2 in-office days (Monday and Thursday) after training is completed. + Travel Requirements: Minimal travel required—less than 5%—to our Canonsburg and Cecil clinic locations. Your home base office will be at our Washington, PA office. + High school graduate or equivalent. + Graduate of an approved certified coding program preferred. + Curriculum includes Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Medical Terminology, ICD-9-CM and CPT Coding Guidelines and Procedures. + Proficient computer skills with MS excel knowledge preferred. + In lieu of 2 years of coding experience with schooling, a minimum of 3 years experience or CPC certification required. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** + Eligible for CPC or CPC specialty certification. + Act 34 **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
