The CNC Operator is responsible for operating computer numerically controlled (CNC) and tape machine tools, along with related auxiliary equipment, to perform a range of precision machining operations. This includes the use of CNC vertical turning and horizontal milling machines, as well as standard measuring and layout tools such as micrometers, indicators, gauges, verniers, scales, and calculators. The role requires the ability to interpret technical documents, perform machine setups, and ensure high-quality part production through accurate measurement and attention to detail.Key Responsibilities:
Operate CNC machines to perform a variety of machining tasks
Stand, lift, bend, push, and pull throughout the shift
Work from blueprints, program instructions, charts, tables, specifications, and verbal/written directions
Interpret blueprints and technical documentation
Input data or perform calculations necessary for CNC programming
Perform basic setups and alignments using fixtures, jigs, vises, clamps, and similar tools
Lay out work in proper operational sequence
Execute operations such as drilling, reaming, turning, boring, recessing, grooving, milling, keyway cutting, and slotting to tight tolerances
Perform measurements and machining calculations
Inspect parts for accuracy, including diameters, runout, squareness, and angles
Replace dull tools and adjust setups as needed to maintain product quality
Visually inspect own work for quality and compliance
Review job and order specifications to ensure proper execution
Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times
Keep a clean and organized work area
Understand and follow written and verbal instructions
Identify and report faulty equipment, defective materials, and abnormal operating conditions
Use independent judgment for planning, setup, inspection, and quality control
Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
1–2 years of trade school or vocational training in CNC machining preferred
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Proficient in reading blueprints and using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators
Strong mathematical skills relevant to machining tasks
Ability to accurately inspect work and ensure quality
Prior experience operating various machining equipment preferred
Successful completion of required skills testing is necessary for job placement
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Standard 8-hour workday
Exposure to coolant, oil, dirt, sand; warm in summer, cool in winter
Eye and foot protection required at all times
Standing, walking, and bending required throughout the shift
Lifting up to 50 pounds
Pushing and pulling with estimated force of 30–70 pounds
