About the Unit: 

8G is a 23-bed progressive care unit specializing in the care of neurologic and neurosurgical patients. As a comprehensive stroke and trauma unit, we manage step-down admissions for stroke and trauma patients transitioning from intensive care. Our nurses are equipped with NIH Stroke Scale training and ACLS certification, and they have the opportunity to pursue advanced certifications in neuroscience and trauma nursing.

Our Neurology units offer expert care from leading neurology specialists aided by the latest medical technology, from life-saving intervention for severe brain trauma to skillful management of neurological illnesses. By understanding the normal and abnormal functions of the human nervous system, we help define the standard of care for stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, movement disorders, and many other neurological disorders.


Responsibilities:

The Clinician/Clinician Fellow is a skilled nursing leader with expertise in clinical practice, teaching, or evidence-based practice. Partnering with management, this role fosters a culture of excellence in nursing and patient care. Under the direction of the Unit Director or Manager, the employee assists with staff evaluations, hiring, and performance management. With authority and accountability for nursing care delivery, they apply advanced clinical knowledge and collaboration to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

Leads clinical nursing practice, guiding change and staff transitions. Engages in participatory leadership and shared governance. Oversees quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and onboarding. Applies Relationship-Based Care to meet patient and family needs. Communicates effectively, advocating for patient care improvements. Uses critical thinking to enhance patient safety and quality. Shares knowledge and innovations through education and publications. Fosters continuous improvement and collaboration across teams. Mentors and educates staff, promoting professional growth.
