Clinical Peer Review Coordinator - Full Time
With guidance and direction from the Senior Level Leadership, in collaboration with the Medical Staff Leadership Team, the Clinical Peer Review Coordinator is a registered nurse who performs project work of a complex nature with interdisciplinary groups that include administrators, nursing and medical leaders. May co-lead large system teams and lead projects at a business unit level. May act as a consultant or facilitator on regulatory, disease certification, patient safety and quality issues. With guidance, designs and delivers educational programs to assist employees, physicians and leadership, meet safety and quality goals. May assist with the design and implementation of medical staff quality and safety projects. The Clinical Peer Review Coordinator is responsible for the collection and analysis of Quality Indicators and occurrences on both an aggregate and individual physician basis. Identifies trends as well as quality improvement opportunities. Works with various physician departments/sections and presents/explains findings. Facilitates discussion to further develop quality improvement activities. Works independently to ensure all established inclusion criteria are reviewed against regulatory standards (such as TJC, CMS and other regulatory bodies). This position requires coordination and confidential communication of critical thinking skills as it pertains to various, selected quality indicator reviews within a medical record for the hospital's medical staff, departments and sections. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: + Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field, preferred. + Minimum of five years of clinical experience. + Training in review of medical records, hospital processes and peer review preferred. + Two years project management experience, preferred. + Experience in the delivering educational programs is an asset. + Demonstrated critical thinking skills, process design, collaboration, teamwork and problem solving to achieve goals and successfully manage multiple competing priorities. + Demonstrated skills in providing excellent service to customers, management and all staff across the system. + Working knowledge of the following: peer review process, including confidentiality, physician rights and hospital by-laws; disease and healthcare processes; and review of medical record content and hospital, State and Federal regulations regarding patient rights and confidentiality. + Experience in patient safety initiatives, clinical quality process improvement, and new program/initiative development, implementation and evaluation. + Basic understanding of the research process and statistical analysis. + Strong interpersonal skills; leadership/mentoring skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff across the System; and strong oral and written communication skills including presentation skills. + Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, electronic mail, database management software, and Epic reports. + Understanding of health care cultures including medical and nursing cultures. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: + Current RN licensure in the State of Michigan. + Continuing education and/or licensing requirements: as mandated by the State of Michigan.
