Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, seeks a clinical microbiologist with focus in clinical virology to join the staff of the Division of Clinical Microbiology. The Division comprises 7 clinical laboratories with current staff of 412 personnel (including 7 laboratory directors). We perform an extensive array of testing for the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases to serve both Mayo Clinic patients and laboratory clients of Mayo Clinic Laboratories, an international reference laboratory. 

Responsibilities for this position include co-directorship of the Virology Laboratory, with additional responsibilities supporting the Division of Clinical Microbiology. Teaching of allied health staff, medical students, residents and fellows, as well as the development and evaluation of new diagnostic tests are expected. A research and development team is available to assist with test development, verification and validation. 



Qualifications

Candidates must hold a M.D. degree and be board-eligible/-certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Medical Microbiology by the American Board of Pathology, or a Ph.D. in microbiology and be board-eligible/-certified in Medical Microbiology by the American Board of Medical Microbiology, with training, expertise, and strong interest in clinical virology, including molecular testing and next-generation sequencing.  Experience with laboratory automation and digitization is highly desired.  Interest in emerging pathogens and development of diagnostic assays for novel organisms is essential. The position carries an academic appointment in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, rank commensurate with experience. Compensation Detail

The minimum starting salary for Laboratory specialties may range from $289,000 to $433,750. This range reflects full-time total base compensation prior to consideration of additional experience or duties. Pay for the selected candidate will vary based on specialty, experience, FTE, internal equity, or external market data.
