About the Role
We’re looking for a dedicated Clinical Lab Scientist, Lead of Phlebotomy & Processing to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you’ll be a vital part of our clinical team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast-paced healthcare environment. You will be responsible for o rganizing the central processing department and coordinating the day to day assignments of the phlebotomy staff activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
What You’ll Do
+ Processing: Organizes and oversees daily specimen processing operations. Ensures batch lists are complete and packaged in time for courier pick up. Helps to coordinate and streamline processes between the Phlebotomy and Laboratory departments. Ensures processing procedures are up to date and accurately reflects the practice. Keeps up to date on reference lab changes and requirements, communicating them in a timely manner. Assigns follow up on any issues with specimen collection and reference lab issues. Ensures test kits and misc. send outs are processed appropriately.
+ Phlebotomy: Prepares monthly schedule and daily assignment schedules (includes draw run assignments, processing / batch preparation assignments, problem follow up assignment, etc). Assists with requisitioning and accessioning as needed. Ensures tech checks are performed in a timely manner and any discrepancies are resolved. May train in phlebotomy techniques as needed.
+ Leadership: Recruits employees who will provide excellent service and develops teams that work well together to achieve common goals. Assists with updating policies/procedures and development of new policies/procedures for newly introduced services or processes. Serves as liaison between provider offices and laboratory.
+ Quality Assurance: Monitors quality/quantity of patient interaction, accessioning accuracy, and shares data with phlebotomy staff to motivate improvement targeted to positively affect patients’ experiences. Ensures phlebotomy TAT is within benchmark.
+ Time Management: Able to keep abreast of the needs of the phlebotomy department as a whole. Ensures patient areas are covered, as well as manages ability to function according to turn around time requirements.
+ Safety: Utilizes all safety devices according to guidelines and disposes appropriately. Maintains and assists with environmental cleanliness. Ability to effectively communicate the importance of compliance and safety to other employees.

What You Bring
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Minimum of six (6) years pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying as a technologist of which two (2) years have been spent working within a clinical chemistry laboratory having a director at the doctorial level. At least 2 years of laboratory supervisory or in-charge experience is preferred. One year experience working at MMEC site (experience on all shifts including charge tech) preferred. Licensed by NYS Department of Education (SED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Must have six years’ experience as a NYS SED licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Complete a minimum of 12 hours of technical continuing education on an annual basis. Licensed by NYS Department of Education (SED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Must have six years’ experience as a NYS SED licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
