Clinical Lab Assistant FT Days
Collects and processes blood specimens for testing in the laboratory. Reports to: Phlebotomy Supervisor Under the supervision and direction of a medical technologist and under CLAI88 guideline, performs pre- and post- analytical test processing areas of the clinical lab which may or may not include the following: A. Placing specimens on the automated analyzers for analysis B. Processes microbiology specimens for routine culture analysis C. Performs waived and moderate testing platforms E. Logging and distribution of patient test specimens from the processing areas in the lab to the respective test areas F. Entering patient demographics and test orders into the automated chemistry analyzer DragEditDelete Labels, processes and delivers specimens for testing. DragEditDelete Collects ordered specimens from patients using age-appropriate techniques. DragEditDelete Maintains scheduled and non-scheduled equipment maintenance and medical supplies. DragEditDelete Utilize computer system for data entry and monitoring workflow DragEditDelete Accurately registers patients using appropriate method and registration procedures. DragEditDelete Performs routine department functions, such as answering the phone in an appropriate and timely manner, taking/delivering messages and transferring calls as needed, faxing and copying. DragEditDelete Maintains a clean and organized work environment DragEditDelete Perform and record quality control results for occupational medicine as required DragEditDelete Direct workflow, lunch breaks, and breaks of phlebotomists in the absence of a Lead or Supervisor DragEditDelete Order supplies for phlebotomy and fills orders from other other departments/clients as directed DragEditDelete Active team member during inventory DragEditDelete Stocks laboratory supplies and manages expiration dates on supplies DragEditDelete Oversee the reference lab send outs for proper collection and processing according to reference lab protocol DragEditDelete Oversee the pathology specimens for proper collection and processing according to pathology protocol DragEditDelete Oversee the STATE LAB Specimen are properly collected and processed according to STATE LAB procedures DragEditDelete Assist in training new team members DragEditDelete Store monthly reports properly *Minimum Education* High school diploma or equivalent - Required DragEditDelete *Minimum Education* Graduate of a Program in Discipline - Preferred Formal Phlebotomy program with a minimum of 40 hours of clinical experience/certification - Preferred DragEditDelete *Required Skills* Certification: BLS certification from approved American Heart Association or American Red Cross training center must be obtained within 90 days of employment. CPT Certification from an approved phlebotomy certification association or similar professional certification (e.g., MA, PCT, EMT) - Preferred DragEditDelete *Required Skills* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
