Under general supervision, the Clinical Cancer Genomics Technologist II - Certified will perform cancer genomic laboratory procedures leading to the formation of an accurate clinical reports using the International System for Cytogenomic Nomenclature. Works under the direction of senior techs and Leadership. Displays significant independence with routine tasks.
This position will be full-time day shift; routine Saturday and/or Sunday shift required
Responsibilities Perform benchwork, analysis, and reporting of genetic or genomic assays consistently with a high level of accuracy and efficiencyMaintain lab areas and equipment including QC and validation documentationContribute to an environment of safety and focus on qualityPerform pre-director tech checking of straightforward and complex cases and reports in areas of high competencyContribute moderately to operations beyond routine testing with supervision (assist with quality management, methods development, revising or writing SOPs)Make solid decisions regarding workflow in the absence of leadBe a resource for straightforward technical issues within area of expertise; be able to offer guidance to proceed. For areas outside personal expertise, provide general guidance and identify additional resourcesTroubleshoot basic equipment or assays issues with moderate assistancePerform as assigned:
Assist with the validation and implementation of new or improved processesAssist members of lab management to improve operations, investigate and implement new technologies, streamline workflow strategies, organize, and evaluate QC/QM recordWith moderate assistance, gather and analyze data for lab use, or for potential publicationAssist with orientation and training of lab staffAssist with daily planning to handle workload according to available resourcesContribute to the continuing education of staff either through directly presenting material or investigating other resourcesRepresent the lab at meetings to address interdepartmental issues, especially technical issuesQualifications
Required:
BA/BS in related scientific fieldTypically, at least three years' experience in a Cytogenetics/genomics lab OR completion of a formal certified training program in Cytogenetics/genomics and two years' work experienceCertification as CG(ASCP)CM or MB(ASCP)CM or international equivalent with on-going documentation of CE comparable to ASCP programsBasic knowledge of CAP guidelinesSolid knowledge of Cancer Genomics of hematological disorders and related diagnostic testingGood Troubleshooting SkillsStrict Attention to DetailStrong Communication SkillsStrong Computer SkillsWorks independently on routine tasksAbility to apply general guidelines and knowledge to unique situations to make sound decisionsAbility to inspect/critique other's workMust be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this roleThe hourly pay range for this position is from $41.82 to $62.72 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
