Clerk - Nursing Unit - ICU/CCU - Per Diem
Position Summary: Responsible for clerical duties, communication with families and reception duties on assigned nursing unit. Works with other members of the patient care team to provide general non‐clinical support. Assists with organization and completion of simple projects under the direction of the nurse manager or designee. Demonstrates appropriate population specific communication skills. Education, License & Cert: High school education or GED. Must be knowledgeable in use of computers. Experience: On the job training to acquire knowledge of various policies and procedures. Average typing skills. Phone etiquette and working with families training is helpful Essential Functions: 1. Demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills. A. Ability to communicate using telephones, beepers and computer systems. B. Answers telephone promptly and politely, identifying self, title, and department. C. Receives and sends messages in an accurate and timely fashion. D. Communicates with the patients, family, and members of the health care team in a concise, tactful and considerate manner. Must represent the hospital in a professional courteous manner while being sensitive to how others perceive both verbal and non verbal communications. 2. Actively participates maintaining a safe environment. A. Follows hospital and nursing department policies and procedures regarding the care and use of equipment and supplies. B. Complies with all policies of the hospital and nursing department. C. Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self or patients. 3. Demonstrates organizational and time management skills. A. Completes work within a timely manner according to department guidelines. B. Maintains neat and clean work area. C. Performs errands in a timely manner. Other Duties: 1. Follows hospital and nursing department policies and procedures during emergency or stressful situations including fire and disaster drills, and emergency situations. 2. Seeks supervision and guidance when appropriate. 3. Supports the philosophy of the hospital and of the department of nursing. 4.
