High standards of hygiene are essential for the well-being of the families, to qualify applicants must have undergone a HMP prison vetting and a DBS check.  Flexibility in working days can be discussed to meet the needs of the unit.

About the service

The mother and baby unit at Askham Grange prison provides a vital service by offering a designated living accommodation where mothers can stay with their children up to approximately 18 months old.  This supported environment allows families to maintain their bond during challenging times. The unit is staffed by trained nursery nurses and carefully selected prison officers, ensuring that mothers receive the necessary support while fostering a nurturing atmosphere for their children.  This unique service plays an essential role in promoting the well-being of both mothers and their little ones during their time in the prison system.
