Position Summary
Position Summary:
The Classroom Technology Generalist is responsible for supporting and maintaining instructional technology systems in classrooms, lecture halls, and other learning spaces across campus. This role emphasizes real-time technical support and proactive maintenance of AV systems, particularly those from vendors like Crestron, Extron, Biamp, and other industry-standard solutions. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of AV integration in higher education, combined
with excellent troubleshooting skills and a commitment to reliable, high-quality classroom experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide responsive, on-site and remote support for classroom audiovisual systems, ensuring equipment is
operational for daily academic use.
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot AV hardware and control systems, including Crestron and Extron control interfaces, video switchers, matrix routers, and touch panels.
• Support other AV hardware such as projectors, document cameras, flat panel displays, microphones, speakers, and assistive listening devices.
• Troubleshoot signal flow and connectivity issues across a variety of AV environments using tools such as cable testers and AV monitoring systems.
• Assist in the setup and operation of video conferencing and lecture capture tools (e.g., Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams).
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and perform AV system checks to ensure equipment reliability.
• Collaborate with instructional designers and IT staff to test, deploy, and support educational technology solutions.
• Maintain accurate documentation of AV setups, wiring diagrams, equipment inventories, and support procedures.
• Participate in AV integration projects including equipment upgrades, room refreshes, and system installations.
• Monitor service desk tickets and escalate complex issues as necessary to outside vendors
• Keep up-to-date with trends in instructional and audiovisual technology relevant to higher education.
Minimum Qualifications
An Associate degree in a related field (e.g., IT, electronics, media technology) ; or 2 years of experience in AV support, IT helpdesk, or a similar technical role involving hardware installation, operation, and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. A successful campus interview and passing a criminal background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to candidates with experience in the following: AV Industry specific certifications,
experience with design, installation, and maintenance of classroom AV technology including Crestron, Extron, and other major AV manufacturers.
