Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and dedicated Class 1 Tug Driver / Shunter for our night shift operations.

Your key responsibilities will include:

 

Safely and efficiently moving trailers and tugs through the confines of the yard, adhering to all site speed limits and traffic management systemsConducting thorough pre-use checks on all vehicles and equipment before commencing workStrictly adhering to yard Health and Safety procedures and regulations at all times, including wearing appropriate PPEPromptly reporting any damage seen or that may have occurred during movements of trailers to the shift supervisorMaintaining accurate logs of all vehicle movements and activities throughout the shiftAssisting in the organisation and optimisation of trailer placement within the yard to maximise efficiencyCollaborating effectively with warehouse staff and drivers to ensure smooth loading and unloading operationsParticipating in regular safety briefings and contributing to continuous improvement initiativesOccasional delivery duties, including local runs as requiredSupporting warehouse operations during quieter periods, such as assisting with inventory checks or general tidyingEnsuring the yard is kept clean, tidy, and free from obstacles that could impede operationsRemaining vigilant and reporting any security concerns or unauthorised personnel in the yard area

 

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

The ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced and pressured environment to ensure that our yard operation runs as smoothly as possibleHave experience in a similar position, preferably with night shift operationsHold a Class 1 LGV Licence (C + E)A current driver CPC cardContinuously demonstrating the core DPD DNA values of Passion, Respect, Honesty, Flexibility, Caring, and Accountability in all aspects of your work.Excellent spatial awareness and manoeuvring skills in confined spacesStrong knowledge of health and safety regulations in a logistics environmentAbility to work independently and as part of a team during night shiftsGood physical fitness to handle the demands of the roleExcellent time management and organisational skillsFlexibility to work varying shift patterns, including weekends and bank holidays as requiredBasic computer skills for logging and reporting purposesA proactive approach to identifying and solving problems in the yardWillingness to undertake additional training and development as needed
