Customer Claims Coordinator – Containerboard Division - West Point, VA

The opportunity:

The Quality and Technical Department within the Smurfit Westrock Corrugated Mill Division is seeking a Claims Coordinator. This role holds primary responsibility for managing claims submitted by our business customers concerning our Containerboard Mills. The Claims Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the claims process, including initiation, information collection, investigation, customer credit arrangements, product returns, loss recovery, resolving billing issues, records management, and ongoing communication with both customers and cross-functional teams.  


How you will impact WestRock:

Navigate/manage complaints through the claims process.  Identify potential issues and make decisions as appropriate to the process.Ensure consistent and timely communication with customers to provide claim status updates, collect necessary information, and respond to inquiries. Strive to deliver solutions that fulfil both customer and business requirements while fostering robust customer relationships.Responsible for coordinating product returns.  Recover losses from third party vendors.Ensure compliance with procedures and documentation accuracy.  Maintain records to include creating and updating spreadsheets.  Evaluate complaint activity and communicate trends to stakeholders.  Maintain and build reports as needed.Provide claims related support to various internal departments to include customer service, sales, accounts receivable, billing and quality.Assist in process improvement opportunities.Conduct training for customers and cross-functional teams Assist with other areas as needed.


What you need to succeed:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant studies preferred.Minimum 3+ years of customer service/customer relations experience.At least 1+ years of accounting related work experience.Must have experience using ERP computer systems or other complex systems.High proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.In depth experience using MS Excel.  Can design and maintain spreadsheets using formulas and pivot tables.Professional verbal and written communication skills.Experience in a high paced work environment. Self-motivated and capable of maintaining a high productivity level with a high attention to detail.Excellent multitasking, planning, prioritizing, and organization skills.Team player who exhibits intellectual curiosity.Analytical thinker skilled at resolving complex issues and making independent decisions.
