A structural engineer's job is to design and construct safe structures that can withstand the elements and improve the structural integrity of existing buildings. Their responsibilities include: 

Designing structures: Using computer-aided design (CAD) technology to create 2D and 3D models of buildings, bridges, and other structures Calculating designs: Performing design calculations for structures Collaborating with others: Working with architects on design models, contractors, and construction workers on-site Evaluating construction: Scrutinizing every phase of construction, from laying foundations to installing structural components Measuring loads: Measuring loads and presses to ensure structural soundness Reviewing Submittals. Structural engineering is a specialized area of civil engineering.
