Job Description

AECOM Markham is hiring a Design Manager – Transportation on our Municipal Roads Design Team.

 

Are you an experienced design professional with a passion for delivering impactful transportation projects? AECOM is seeking a Design Manager to lead and coordinate municipal road design initiatives in Ontario.

 

Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:

Operate with a high degree of autonomy, receiving broad strategic direction and setting goals accordingly.Engage with senior management and navigate complex issues with tact, professionalism, and strong negotiation skills.Provide oversight and direction for engineering production activities within a growing operating unit.Manage portfolio of clients with multiple projectsManage all phases of projects (from beginning to close out)Manage projects and provide civil leadership including project team direction, co-ordination, monitoring schedules and budgetsCommunicate with clients, agencies, stakeholders, and the publicAssign, direct, and review work undertaken by technical staff to ensure that projects are completed to a high degree of accuracy and quality, and on budgetProject management responsibilities including financial, schedule, and scope management of projectsPerform business development and marketing activities to current and potential clients in order to generate future businessDirects staff to operate and minimize exposure to risks and claimsLead preparation of Proposals and Requests for QualificationsManage staff for technical project activities, assist with staff development, and provide input and recommendations relative to staff needs, performance, and remuneration

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of road design experience.P.Eng. designation in Ontario required.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and provide guidance/mentoring to junior and intermediate project staff.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Extensive experience delivering projects in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.10+ years of experience in the road design engineering fieldKnowledge of applicable design standards including those published by TAC and MTOKnowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards, and relevant GTHA Standard design requirements and Tender Documents for Unit Price ContractsKnowledge of Municipal Class EA processExperience with AutoCad (and Civ3D) and/or MicroStation/Bentley, and other roadway design softwareOutstanding communication and verbal skills, documentation and proposal writing skillsAccountability for project budgetsExcellent communication and team coordination skills, built over a career in infrastructure design and leadership.This position is municipally oriented, but experience with MTO as a project manager and lead design engineer will be considered
