Civil/Environmental Engineer – Site Development & Design

WORK LOCATION, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL
This position will be based out of Birmingham, AL. Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently four (4) days in-office and one (1) day telecommute. Relocation assistance may be provided if the successful candidate does not currently live within a reasonable commute distance. This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.JOB SUMMARY
The position requires the ability to provide leadership, organizational skills, initiative, and ownership for preparing drawings and design documents including site grading plans, stormwater design, erosion control plans, technical specifications, stormwater calculations, and construction quantity estimates for various types of site development projects in support of the operating companies within the Southern Company footprint.
Ability to collaborate well with a broader team to achieve project results. Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk SSA and/or Hydraflow design software. Ability to travel to construction sites before, during and after the construction phase to provide construction support from an engineering perspective related to site development.JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required. Civil or Environmental Engineering degree preferred. PE License or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification on track for professional registration is desired.Experience:
Minimum five (5) years of experience in site development and design is preferred but less experience will be considered. Experience and solid understanding in using AutoCAD Civil 3D or other similar software is required. Experience producing Civil Site Development construction drawing packages is required. Experience and solid understanding in stormwater design using AutoCAD SSA (Storm and Sanitary Analysis), Hydraflow Hydrographs, Hydraflow Express, HY-8, or other similar stormwater management software is required. Experience and solid understanding of erosion control planning and design is required. Knowledge of the requirements for either Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, or Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for preparing erosion control plans would be a plus.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Proficient use of Microsoft Office products. Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment.
