Job Description
As a Civil Design Technician, you will be an integral part of our engineering team, tasked with maintaining and expanding civil and electrical projects. These projects involve the installation, alteration, extension, and repair of various electrical and civil equipment, all controlled, monitored, and automated by complex circuitry, electronics, and advanced communication networks.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare, create, modify, or review civil and electrical designs such as cable chamber/vault, equipment layouts, mechanical drawings, highway crossings, train track crossings, and bridge crossings.Complete drawings in accordance with Subsurface Utility Engineering Standards using MicroStation.Review and calculate invert data for congested civil subsurface utility design to generate sufficient profile/cross section.Read, understand, and interpret various types of underground civil utility drawings.Perform initial Quality Control (QC) of field deliverables according to standards and best practices.Communicate directly with field staff to address questions or clarifications required within the documents received from the field.Organize and review all field documents and files for completeness.Ensure utility record drawings are collected, complete, and reviewed thoroughly, including any drawings and plans provided by the client.Understand and correlate between utility records, construction plans, and field documents to document the presence of underground and/or aerial utilities.Work through and complete various types of deliverables and supporting documents, including drawings, reports, and traffic control plans as per OTM Book 7.Essential SkillsProficiency in civil design and utilities.Experience with MicroStation, preferably over 4 years, or AutoCAD.Civil Engineering education.4+ years of experience in civil design for underground distribution lines.Knowledge of Municipal Consent Requirements (MCR) and the City of Toronto underground installation requirements.Experience in civil design within a utility environment.Willingness to visit project sites 10% of the time.Additional Skills & QualificationsProfessional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.Experience in electrical distribution is an asset.Experience in civil design within downtown Toronto, particularly in congested areas with other utility lines.Work Environment
For the first six months, work is fully on-site, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours from 8 am to 4 pm. After six months, shift to a hybrid schedule with three days in the office and two days working from home. Mandatory office days are Tuesday and Thursday, with flexibility for the third office day. The work environment is trusting and flexible, emphasizing the completion of tasks over supervision. The design team consists of 26 members, including engineers, supervisors, and coordinators, fostering mentorship and growth opportunities. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $45.00/hr.
