Job Summary

The Circulation and Access Services and Divisional Library (CASDL) team helps faculty, students, staff, and visitors find and use our collections, services, and resources. As a Circulation and Access Services Supervisor, you will support student and staff employees in providing information, answering questions, and connecting patrons to the services the library has to offer. Like all members of CASDL, you will make our spaces, services, and collections welcoming, accessible, and safe for a broad community of staff and users. You will work with employees, providing daily support and collaborating with our unit's team of supervisors and managers to oversee scheduling, circulation, and training programs.

You will directly manage the work of at least two full-time staff members and collaborate in the supervision of  a team of student employees. You may be responsible for building opening and closing. In the absence of a manager, you will be the highest staff onsite in evening and weekend hours and may be the primary contact for the department in case of emergency. You will report to the Evening Manager for Hatcher and Shapiro Libraries.

What You'll Do

Perform information services desk responsibilities which include maintaining user accounts, checking out and checking in physical material, providing basic library and campus information services, collecting and reviewing statistics on interactions at service desksDirectly manage staff, including hiring, training, scheduling and hourly budget oversight, timesheet approval, ongoing support, coaching, and performance evaluationProvide support to student and staff employees at service points that are sometimes busy and bustling by communicating and enforcing library policies; and escalate issues to the department managerMonitor and update schedules of students and staff working during your assigned shifts, including coordinating desk coverage if a gap appearsManage the opening and closing of library buildings or service pointsCollaborate with Library Facilities, U-M Department of Public Safety, and U-M Plant Operations to handle and report security and building maintenance incidentsContribute to our positive work environment by incorporating multiple perspectives into your approach to leading the service.Handle basic printer, computer, copier troubleshooting; and report technology issuesMeet with other Access and Fulfillment supervisors and managers to coordinate and communicate library proceduresWho We Are

Skills You Have

High School Graduate or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience1+ years of experience in customer service workManagement experience including directing, training and evaluating employeesWillingness and ability to work a non-traditional work schedule including evenings and weekendsDesired Qualifications*

The schedule for this position is Sunday-Thursday, 4PM-12:30AM. This work schedule may vary during weeks that contain holidays or academic breaks and may be modified based on operational needs.
