Position Summary

The Christmas Coordinator is responsible for the preparation, execution, and management of the annual Christmas Kettle Campaign for The Salvation Army of Long Beach by coordinating, communicating, and supporting the volunteers and staff who participate in the campaign, and working with the Corps Officer through the Christmas season.

Essential Functions

Contact all store managers by letter or phone to seek their permission to establish a kettle site at their location. Acquires necessary documentation (insurance, etc.) for each site. Check all equipment to make sure it is in good shape and ready for use. Maintain kettle equipment.  This will involve making sure that the kettles, kettle stands, bells, and aprons are clean and in good condition at all times. Assist with placing any help wanted advertising for bell ringers in newspapers, etc. Make sure all stands and signs are delivered to kettle sites the day before kettles are scheduled to begin; and picked up at the end of the campaign season. The coordinator must be available at the beginning and end of each day to assign volunteers to sites (matching best volunteers with most productive sites), discuss problems, and answer questions. Coordinates the usage of volunteers for kettles, and special events when applicable. Coordinates transportation arrangements and establishes driver schedules/routes. Perform “spot checks” on volunteers throughout the day to ensure the best possible image is being presented. Troubleshoot any problems that come up with bell ringers, managers, drivers, etc. Keep records of the assignment of each kettle volunteer and work cooperatively with the Corps Officer to monitor the locations’ productivity. Coordinates the counting and depositing of all seasonal income related to the position. This will involve ensuring that each kettle contains a slip of paper with the date, location, volunteer and time in/out and that all kettles are accounted for at the end of the day Inventory all equipment at the end of the season. Prepares a season-ending brief. Other seasonal duties as assigned within scope of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or AA Degree in General Education Must have good communication and coordination skills Must be willing to work with a multitude of different individuals and groups Must be able to drive and operate a Salvation Army Vehicle Must be good with logistics Must be willing to work evenings Must be able to speak to groups internally and externally

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead Ability to operate telephone Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes) Ability to access and produce information from a computer Must have good organization skills Ability to understand written information
