At Change Grow Live, we’re proud to be launching the Liverpool River Service — an exciting new service designed to support children, young people, and families affected by someone else's drug and/or alcohol use. As a Children and Families Worker, you’ll play a key role in helping young people under the age of 18 find their voice, feel heard, and take steps toward a safer, happier, and healthier future. You’ll support them one-to-one in a confidential space, delivering a range of age-appropriate interventions through play, creativity, and conversation. Using a person-centred approach, you’ll help young people explore the impact of difficult situations — and empower them to grow with confidence and resilience.

Location: Liverpool
Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Salary: £27,861.26 - £32,002.35 (depending on experience)

 

*Please note: Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

Responsibilities About the Role

As a Children and Families Worker, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children and young people who are affected by familial substance use. You’ll take a holistic, person-centred approach — offering one-to-one and group-based interventions that meet young people where they are and help them move forward with confidence.

Working in close partnership with our adult services, you’ll deliver whole family interventions, contribute to safety planning, and support safeguarding, ensuring families receive joined-up care that leads to positive and sustainable outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

Identifying and engaging families — in partnership with other agencies — who would benefit from a Think Family / Whole Family approach.

Supporting children and young people through a wide range of interventions, tailored to their individual needs.

Responding promptly and effectively to any safeguarding concerns, working in line with best practice and policy.

Helping reduce the impact of drug and alcohol use on young people and their communities.

Promoting holistic wellbeing by supporting young people to build resilience, improve health, and lead safe, purposeful lives.

Working flexibly across our service sites and out in the community, where needed, to reach and support those who need us most.

A passion for working with children and young peopleA creative and empathetic approach, using activities like games, art, and storytelling to build trustAn understanding of the impact of substance use on families and young peopleA commitment to safeguarding and creating safe, supportive spacesThe ability to work flexibly across Liverpool in the community

To excel in this role, you will bring:

Experience working with children and young people, along with a strong awareness of the challenges they may face in today’s world.A clear understanding of safeguarding, particularly in relation to children and young people, including familiarity with the Gillick Competence framework.Knowledge of drug and alcohol-related issues, and experience working in a related field — ideally supporting individuals or families affected by substance use.An evidence-based approach to practice, with an understanding of young people’s substance misuse treatment methods and current best practice guidance.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence using digital systems to record, report, and manage information.Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and meet reporting deadlines.A collaborative mindset, with strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach to supporting shared service goals.
