This vacancy is located in the East Feliciana Parish Child Welfare Office in Clinton, LA.
This Child Welfare Supervisor is a crucial role that supports and monitors staff performance, identifies necessary resources, and ensures accountability. The work unit assigned to this supervisor consists of Child Welfare Trainees/Specialists and Social Service Analysts in the Child Protection Investigation, Foster Care, and Family Services programs. The staff in this unit will perform various court work, intake functions, investigations, and provide short term care and services to families and children who are alleged to be abused/neglected.
Minimum Qualifications
Six years of experience in child welfare; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in child welfare; OR
A bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience in child welfare; OR
An advanced degree in a social science or behavioral health field, nursing, or a juris doctorate plus two years of experience in child welfare.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
A current driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.
NOTE:
The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15.587.1 (c).

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Provide direct line supervision of professional level Child Welfare Specialists employees in the Child Protection Investigation Program, Foster Care Program, and Family Services Program through supervisor conferences, case staffings, unit conferences, on-the-job training, review of completed work assignments, etc. Trains and orients staff regarding Agency policy and procedures, good child welfare practice, local office policy and procedures and Civil Service procedures and policies.
+ Guides employees through the assessment of the validity of the child abuse/neglect allegations. Guides employees through the risk of harm assessment and need for out of the home placement of abused/neglected children. Guides employees through the assessment of the services of referrals needed for clients who have been investigated for alleged abuse/neglect. Provide administrative expertise as required.
+ Determines work assignments, coordinates workflow and duty assignment of employees, monitors work productivity and activity to assure compliance with Agency procedures and policies. Assess ongoing training needs of the staff and offers the training or helps arrange for the training through appropriate Agency channels.
+ Attends appropriate agency staffings, meetings, and training/conferences in order to carry out the agency’s policies, and to enhance skills development.
+ Takes after-hours supervisor duty for the workers on 24 hours call as assigned in the office rotation.
+ Reviews and evaluates work performance; counsels with employees regarding work performance; may recommend disciplinary action of an employee.
+ Works directly with clients, professionals, and community members who are upset and need clarification about a worker’s intervention or Agency intervention in general.
+ Interviews potential job applicants and recommends hiring to the next supervisory level.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a probational appointment or a job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to probational appointments. Also, it may be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months or by promotion of a permanent classified employee.
Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and is dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.
Compensation: The Child Welfare Supervisor position has a minimum Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $26.91/hr.
In accordance with La. R.S. 46:51.2 the department shall conduct a State Central Registry (SCR) check for a potential employee of the department to determine whether or not said individual's name appears on a SCR subsequent to December 31, 2009, and whose duties include: investigations of child abuse or neglect, supervisory or disciplinary authority over children, direct care to a child, or performance of licensing surveys.
In accordance with state laws, selected candidates must pass the following checks before any final job offer will be made: Drug Test, Criminal Background, State Central Registry, and Louisiana State Police Sex Offender and Child Predator Registry.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
