About the Role/Unit:
Under limited supervision as a Child Life Specialist (CLS) with the Pediatric Oncology & Hematology Outpatient Clinic at Sinai Hospital, provides psychosocial and emotional support for pediatric & adolescent patients and their families. The CLS utilizes a family-centered care approach to assist patients and families in effectively coping with the stress and anxiety of the hospital experience as well as to maximize the growth and development of children and adolescents.
Key Responsibilities:
Develops, implements, and evaluates child life care plans and programs to promote optimal growth, development, self-esteem, and family support for children and adolescents. Provides therapeutic child life care including medical play activities, psychological preparation and teaching effective coping strategies; accompanies and supports children during medical procedures as needed. Work is primarily performed in the Pediatric Oncology Hematology Outpatient Clinic but may extend to other clinical settings within Sinai Hospital where pediatric patients receive care.Requirements:
Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child Psychology or related field; Master’s degree preferred 600-hour Child Life Internship under supervision of a certified child life specialist Certification: Child Life Certification – or certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a hospital Child Life program is preferred but not requiredAdditional Information
