No County Genesee Street Address New York State School for the Blind City Batavia State NY Zip Code 14020 Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Child Care Aide 1 position in the New York State School for the Blind. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for maintaining the safety and well-being of students, escorting students to and from activities, attending to students’ personal hygiene needs, assisting in the development of appropriate daily living skills, and providing supervision and assistance as necessary. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with students and staff, follow written and spoken instructions, and relate to the students being supervised. Candidates must be in good health, good physical condition, and able to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children and participate in physical activities.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who have:• An Associate’s Degree or higher in the Human Services field; • Experience as a Nurse’s Aide; • Skilled in sign language; • Experience in behavior modification, orientation and mobility; • Certification in water safety, CPR, first aid, advanced first aid, or EMT; and • Demonstrated skills working with the multiply disabled.Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Child Care Aide 1.It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent, competitive, 12-month appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment.
