Chief of Staff for the CFO

The Chief of Staff to the CFO serves as a trusted advisor and key operational partner, managing the CFO's calendar, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, overseeing day-to-day operations within the finance department, and ensuring smooth execution of strategic priorities by facilitating communication, project management, and analysis to support effective decision-making across the finance function; acting as a liaison between the CFO and other internal/external stakeholders.

In this role the Chief of Staff (CoS) will operate in support of the CFO and work collaboratively with senior-level Finance leadership to drive the execution of agreed upon operating mechanisms for the business in line with strategic and operational priorities. The CoS will lead projects from conception to completion, work under pressure and adjust quickly, manage confidential matters with discretion, engage with external stakeholders on behalf of CFO, and partner with various internal stakeholders to optimize the activities of the Finance organization. Key stakeholders beyond the CFO include, but are not limited to, the Finance Leadership Team, CoE Business Partners, segment and divisional leaders and the Chief Communications Officer. This position will report to the EVP, Chief Financial Officer.

This role is ideal for an individual with a strong analytical mindset, exceptional communication skills, and a proven ability to operate at a strategic level while maintaining a focus on execution.

This hybrid position offers a balanced schedule of a minimum of three in-office days at an assigned location of Burlington NC with as needed travel to the Raleigh/ Durham, NC office, supporting both collaboration and flexibility.ResponsibilitiesAligns Finance Leadership team meeting structure and agendas to business priorities, collaborating with key stakeholders to prioritize discussion topics, coordinating participation from appropriate leaders, attending all meetings, and capturing action itemsDrives follow up to ensure completion of action items and proper communicationStreamlines processes within the finance department, identifies areas for improvement, and implements operational efficienciesFacilitates clear communication channels within the finance team and between the CFO and other departments, including drafting presentations, summarizing key points, and preparing communication materials in partnership with Chief Communications OfficerProvides guidance and support to the CFO's direct reports, fostering collaboration and team cohesionRepresents the voice of the CFO in key events, including the Quarterly Finance Town Halls, Budget and Business Reviews, Quarterly Enterprise Leadership call, and meetings with key external stakeholdersProvides operational support and strategic insights to and oversight of critical/special projects thatare not assigned to or being managed by an existing business or functionrequire cross enterprise effort, coordination, and communicationare prioritized by the CFO and Finance Leadership TeamMonitors and reports on the progress of strategic initiatives, identifying potential roadblocks and developing mitigation strategiesConducts research and analysis on market trends, competitive landscapes, and internal data to inform strategic decision-making.Ensures the timely preparation of CFO for key internal or external engagements, tapping relevant stakeholders as appropriateParticipates in a wide range of meetings (internal and external) with the CFO, including some travel when appropriate, and follows up on actions from those engagementsIn partnership with the Executive Assistant, broadly oversees CFO’s time allocation, optimizing focus on the most critical or high impact topics, filtering requests, and ensuring appropriate responses to said requests, and ensuring CFO’s time is spent on the highest prioritiesQualificationsFinance leadership experience in life sciences, with an emphasis on operational outcomes, financial metrics and performance, organizational change and culture, collaborative and situational leadershipExperience assessing external market drivers and stakeholders, including economic, scientific, industry, and technology trends and influencersDemonstrated ability to manage business and organizational challenges and change, work behind the scenes to solve problems, make decisions, and advance projects through collaboration and with diplomacyInterest and experience operating across cultures and geographies globallyStrong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, use influence to drive outcomes, and engage openly / directly at all levels of the organizationAbility to quickly grasp complex business situations, manage confidential information with discretion, pivot across competing demands, and navigate within an ambiguous environmentHighest integrity and confidentialityEducation and Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferredProven experience in a senior finance role, preferably with exposure to strategic planning and financial analysisSolid project management and stakeholder management skillsStrong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools10+ years of related professional experienceAbility to travel domestically and globally on occasionExtensive experience consulting with senior executives and other business stakeholdersStrong orientation to team culture and cross-functional partneringHistory of driving highly ambiguous and complex projects
