Chief of Staff – AI Labs

The Head of Operations, Chief of Staff will serve as a strategic partner to the Head of AI Labs, supporting leadership effectiveness, team operations, and coaching & development across the team. This role requires a high level of discretion, strategic thinking, operational rigor, and emotional intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Support & Strategic Partnership

Translate Rachel’s vision into actionable strategies and ensure alignment across the team.

Act as a liaison with internal stakeholders, advocating for and protecting the team’s priorities.

Prepare executive-level materials and presentations.

Track and support Rachel’s weekly priorities and initiatives.

Serve as a proxy for Rachel in decision-making forums and partner engagements.

Monitor team dynamics and proactively resolve interpersonal issues before escalation.

Support Rachel’s well-being and personal logistics as needed.

Team Operations & Operating Model

Own and manage the team’s agile processes (e.g., recurring team meetings,demos, OKRs, retros, check-ins, operating model agenda, etc.).

Oversee recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes in collaboration with Talent Acquisition and the Innovation Office COO teams.

Partner with heads of Data Science and Engineering on organizational structure, project resourcing, project-level agile practices, and documentation hygiene.

Oversee business processes around strategic planning, budget management, and risk and audit.

Ensureteam compliance with firm-wide policies and processes.

Lead internal and external communications, storytelling, and success tracking.

Plan and execute strategic engagements(e.g., Rob Goldstein updates, team offsites, partner panels, partner check-ins, etc.).

Maintain a backlog of potential projects and manage stakeholder relationships.

Team Development & Coaching

Foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, and innovation.

Coach team members on leadership, communication, and cultural contribution.

Promote professional norms and proactive behaviors across the team.

Facilitate learning opportunities (e.g., mentorship, passion projects, discussion groups, etc.).

Support people managers with direct reports’ development, where required.

Intervene early in team conflicts and support a healthy, high-functioning environment.

Help shape and strengthen Rachel’s leadership team through strategic hiring.

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$137,500.00 - USD$194,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
