Position SummaryWe’re looking for a Chief Engineer in Arco (TN) location.
As a key member of the engineering staff, the Chief Engineer has the full responsibility for a specific product line (in other words owns the product, being fully responsible for its outcome product along the full lifecycle), and leads a dedicated team that:
• creates the product concept,
• develops the technical business case of the product,
• leads the technical design of the product,
• manages the development of the product,
• takes the product into production, while coordinating continuously with the other business functions (e.g. manufacturing/production engineering, quality, sales, marketing),
• optimizes the product while in production.
The product is a Hydrostatic Variable Transmissions system that combines mechanic, hydraulic, electric, electronic and software components and features.

- Internal: Engineering peers and management, OH leadership
- External: Customers, engineering service providers, research institutes
Leads a core team of professionals with full responsibility for a specific product line. Has the overview of all engineering activities concerning linked to specific product line. Strong links to global network of Dana OH engineering sites.
Main Responsibilities
Lifecycle management
Responsible for the defined product line from cradle to crib. Strongly involved in making the strategic decisions on product evolution and scope, together with Product Planning and Higher Management. Responsible for implementing the needed actions and projects resulting from these decisions. Main technical contact person for customer and internal management.
• Have an overview and try to mitigate in technical issues linked to the product line. Keep close contact with all technical experts and report out to OH leadership and involved customers.
• Responsible for development of the new product, correct handover to production when phasing in as well as phasing out from production.
• Responsible for technical robustness of the product during its lifecycle – driving product improvement programs when applicable
• Responsible for financial robustness of the product during the lifecycle – driving cost down programs when applicable
• Facilitate inter-disciplinary communications, managing interfaces
• Manage risks and issues
• Manage risk, issue and change tracking and coordinate with all stakeholders
• Drive project work to completion, using good judgment in determining when to escalate issues to management
• Act as primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
• Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain awareness of project scope and milestones
2. Project management
Responsible for the engineering projects linked to new developments in his/her product line. Includes setting up planning & budgeting and driving execution & delivery. Projects are run in a multi-competency and multi-team environment using DANA and agency resources across all relevant DANA teams.
• Manage scope, schedule and cost
- Create and Manage program timelines by directing, coordinating, and communicating to all functional groups assigned to the project as well as customer functional groups, suppliers,…
- Ensure projects are launched on-time and meet deliverables
- Create work breakdown structure based on stakeholder and system requirements.
- Request from team leads assigned resources to tasks (people and tools) and refine input based on feedback technical experts.
- Define needs for project during AOP budget rounds.
• Facilitate inter-disciplinary communications, managing interfaces
- Organize regular meetings with the project team to ensure efficient sharing of information
- Connect the dots; pro-actively identify information from one team that could be interesting for another team
- Monitor interfaces between teams, i.e. deliverables from one team that are input for another team
• Control project quality
- Align project execution to DR and SG process of Dana.
- Define and monitor project KPIs
- Create and maintain required project documentations
3. Technical management supportKey person for all technical questions, support and decisions concerning the product line:
• Coordinate overall design activities for dedicated product line:
- Requirements analysis and management
- Concept design work
- Design reviews – DFA - DFM - DFMEA
- Calculations & simulations
- Final design
- Define and follow up on V&V activities
- Document all the above in a lean and transparent way - transfer to product engineering / production
- Delivery on time, at cost and quality
• Give global technical support for the dedicated product line to customers and involved internal stakeholders on technical issues and warranty topics
• Report out to OH leadership where escalation is needed
• Good technical knowledge of all the technical aspects of the product as well as application (vehicles) and manufacturing environment is hereby essential
Job Position Requirements
Education: Master degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent
Professional Background:
Minimum 10 years of diversified experience in the multi-disciplinary development of vehicles or vehicle subsystems. You also have experience in combining a broad technical expertise with managerial soft skills. Experience and track record in technical design and delivering technical product development projects

• Knowledge of Off Highway market and the related applications, standards and regulations

• Knowledge of existing processes within Dana
• Diversified experience in project management functions, preferably in the multi disciplinary development of vehicles or vehicle subsystems
